For this project, Mr Tronconni assigned us the task of choosing a complex product and taking it apart and reverse engineer it. This project spanned over a week and i used my resources to full use. I started the project with choosing a ps4 controller. This controller was already broken before but i used this project as a chance to see how and why it broke.
The first steps were to unscrew the controller and begin taking it apart. The controller could be broken up into 3 parts, The top cover, the skeleton of the controller, and the bottom cover. The top cover only had the connection between the usb port and the battery pack of controller. This is so that you can charge the controller. The skeleton of the controller was the most complex part. Had the motherboard which is the heart of the controller. Also included weights and motors for the vibration of controller. the bottom part of the controller had no complex parts resulting in just the use of protecting the skeleton and connecting the whole controller together.
Once the breaking it apart was done, i began sketching the different parts to the best of my ability. With this i also began my research of the different functions and materails of the controller parts. This allowed for me to learn new functions and gave me the ability to label the different parts and theirs tasks down on the sketch. As im coming to a finish, I finalize the sketch and research then im done, and i have reversed engineered a ps4 controller the best to my ability wth the resources provided.
Context:
Engineering drawing
An engineering drawing is a 3-the three axes of the isometric drawing form 120 degree angles with ead object on a 2-d piece of paper or computer screen by a process called projection
5 common types
isometric
oblique
orthographic
axonometric
perspective
Isometric (all parallel)
the three axes of the isometric drawing form 120 degree angles with eachother. Circles appear as elipses in isometric drawing.
Perspective
in a perspective drawing objects appear the way the human eye would see them. Parallel lines converge to a single point at the horizon
Orthographic
In orthographic drawings that object appears to be inside a "glass box" with each face of the object projected onto a side of the box
Computer Aid Design Software (CAD)
Engineering drawing are produced on computers with CAD
Reflection:
during this project, two things that i felt i did well on where my ability to sketch the product out in different ways and also being able to research the functions and tasks of each different piece. This opened up my creative imagination which allowed me to think, how do all these pieces contribute to eachother? Thats a question im going to keep in the back of my head throughout all projects.
Two things that i need to improve on is my ability to ask for help. Im so stuck up on the idea of "I got it myslef" that i feel kind of "dumb" in a way, asking for help. Now i know that i can trust my teacher and ask for help. The last thing is my time management because I felt like i spent to much time on the sketching part and trying to perfect the look, i couldnt dig deep into the functions of projects. I know i can find more and more which allows it to be easier for me.
