Solve a World Problem

My group and I were presented with the task to try and come up with a solution for a world problem. With the first day as a class we came up with many problems we could choose from. Two of them caught our attention. The amount of toilet paper and World Hunger. I think we all know what we were going to chose. We choose World Hunger/Food insecurity.

For the next week we came all together and came up with ideas on how to solve these problems. We came up with many solutions but most were unreliable. We ended up landing on one. This one was local and had our school involved. It would make it so kids who grabbed school lunch but didn't want to eat it could put it into a type of bin that we would send to a organization where they would give to people under the poverty line.

After we had our idea all we needed was a prototype. In our slideshow you will see that we have one which would be put next to trash cans around school. We then made our slideshows with our facts and presented then.

Food Insecurity

Create: a prototype

Our prototype would look similar to a garbage can but make it easy to tell the difference. The bin would have different sections for different types of food.

Test: and evaluate prototype

we looked at our project very thoroughly. We discussed on what we would need in the insides of the bin.

Improve: and redesign as needed

We came up with the modifications that we need to have a cushion at the bottom of the bin so foods wouldn't squish when falling into it.

Ask: to identify the need and constraints

We identified our problem as World hunger/Food insecurity. We know we couldn't get our plan out to around the world so we focused in our local area.

Research: the problem

We had a doc for each person where we would find three articles and annotate at least 15 lines and also a graph.

Imagine: possible situations

We decided we wanted to have an original idea. Not super original but with the help of your local school involved seemed good to us

Plan: by selecting a promising solution

Our promising solution was to make it so kids who grabbed school lunch but didn't want to eat it could put it into a type of bin that we would send to a organization where they would give to people under the poverty line.

Reflection

I think during this project was taking lead on it. The project was a big load on us. This was going to be tough for us since we had to come up with an original idea. But I felt like i helped the team decide on what our next steps were. Due to having one our teammates out due to sickness me and Owen had to take on all the work left from him. But we managed with good communication and collaboration.

What I felt like i had a weakness on was my ability to find articles and annotate them to make them smaller summaries. I also seem to be to social and get off task much easier than i attend to. I try to work on this everyday but it gets to me every time and cant try to stop myself.
