Build A Band

Evidence of Work

Over the span of about 2 weeks we had to create a band with instruments that we had to make. There were 3 people in my group (including me) and we each created our own instruments. The 3 instruments that we made were a wind instrument, a string instrument, and a drum instrument. The first step to making the instruments was to blueprint and sketch out your instrument. This was part of the design cycle. Then after coming up with ideas and sketching everything out we then took our ideas up to the San Marin maker space and built our instruments from our blueprints. We had about 5-6 days to work in the maker space, depending on how far you are with completing your instrument. All the days in the maker space where really fun because all we got to build and try new ideas for our instruments which was really fun. When we started to finish up with our instruments we then had to calculate and find out what notes our instruments where making. If our notes didn't match up with what note they should be playing we then got to tone up our instrument so that way it could play the right note. After doing our calculations we then got to pick out a song so we could play that song. My team chose to play "Hot Cross Buns". This was a fairly easy song to play and was a fun song to play at the same time. Overall our build a band project was a really fun project and overall it was a success.

How Each Instrument Works

This document explains and shows how each of our instrument works. It also shows our calculations and how we got our calculations from our Instrument. As well as it explains the meaning of vibration and how all of our instruments vibrate.

Content

Frequency- the rate at which a vibration occurs or is repeated over a particular period of time.

Wavelength- the distance from the top crest to the following top crest.

Wave Speed- the frequency at which a wave moves.

Amplitude- the distance form the mid point to the max point of a wave.

Transverse Wave- the movement through the medium at a right angle to direction.

Longitudinal Wave- particles move along direction of the waves/parallels to direction of wave.

Electromagnetic Spectrum- the range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends.

Reflection

There were a lot of ups in this project but there were a couple downs at the same time. One thing that I did well was being a positive teammate and not being selfish or annoying. This showed character and is something that I did well because I had a positive attitude and never spoke negatively. Another thing that I thought I did well was being a critical thinker by really looking into how the sounds are actually made and how my instrument worked. 2 things that I need to work on is to be more of a conscientious learner by taking and learning new ideas from other groups, and not just from myself. Another thing that I need to work on is collaborating more on more ideas and work. I can work on this because there is times where i am already done and I can help my teammate with something rather than just do nothing. These are two things that I did well and two things that I can work on.
