For this project, our teacher wrote down many options of methods for maintaining homeostasis that we had to choose from. My group chose heart rate as our study for this project. We then had to create an experiment that showed how heart rate helped maintain homeostasis. We also had to create an online poster that had to follow a rubric. The rubric had a lot of details of certain things that we needed to include on the poster to get a good grade. We also had to make a website for the project. For our experiment we had myself run 100 meters on the track and then we calculated my heart beat per second then multiplied that by 60. Before I did the running we noted my standing heart rate first. This showed us what my heart rate was and then we were able to time the amount of time it took for my heart rate to go back down after the running, to go back to my normal heart rate.
Problem: Heart rate being tested
Procedure: How are we going to answer our problem above
Hypothesis: Educated guess about what is going to be the overall outcome/result
Independent Variable: What or thing was changed
Dependent Variable: What or thing was measured
Constants: Things that are consistent/relatable
Control Run: What you are comparing evidence to
Data: Your collection of series outcomes
Observation: What you have concluded and or noticed
Analysis: Results to problem, connecting
Homeostasis: State of steady and internal physical/chemical conditions maintained by living systems
Heart Rate: Heart beats per minute
Catecholamines: Amount of hormones secreted when someones heart rate is in the state of increasing
In this project I learned a lot about the overall structure of heart and how homeostasis maintains it. I felt like I performed well with my group and had great chemistry with them. We all got along and there was no argueing and just positive vibes all around. We were focused from start to finish and got our whole project done with a good amount of time to spare. We also did not half-ass anything and did all the work with a great deal of effort.
For me, personally I felt like I improved on 2 things from the 6´c. Character was an improvement because I was very respectful and positive with my teammates at all times. Another one was communication because I used verbal respect with all my teammates. There was no negative words coming out of my mouth and only positive words like ¨Good job!¨ There was one thing that I needed to work on which was my critical thinking because there was some times where I was stuck on something and I should have tried to think outside-the-box to help myself out. Overall it was a good project and had fun
