Our Design

The process of making our design was really fun and also a challenge at the same time. We had 8 days to complete our design and have it go 5 meters exactly with 2 rolls of 50 pennies on the vehicle. We had about 4-6 work days (depending on if you were done with building or not) and the rest of the days were for finding our calculations and and working on our presentation. We got right to the chase from the start of day 1. We first started with a blueprint and then added on from there.

On our build days we started with taking a trim cut piece of wood and putting two sets of two wheels on the front and back end of the wood. When we made our axles we then worked on smoothing everything else out to make the vehicle run smooth. After that we carved into our wood to make space for our 2 rolls of pennies. First we decided to try to have a rubber band and roll it onto the axle from a hook in the front of the vehicle. Then when we released the rubber band the axle wood turn the wheels so that the wheels wood go forward and push the vehicle forward. Sadly this did not work as planned.

So we decided to make a slingshot type boost for our vehicle. We did this by putting two side pieces of wood and connecting it to a top piece, just like a table. The we put a hook in the front of it. After that we made a big sling out of rubber bands. Then what we did was connect both hooks with the rubber band and pull back the vehicle 5 meters and sling it forward. This worked out great but we needed more weight on the vehicle. So we added some 1 more roll of pennies and added a 100g weight and a 50g weight. Also we took of our wheels cause they kept breaking. Our vehicle was now a sled and it had enough weight so that our vehicle would go 5 meters. This was a challenge of a project but it was also a really fun project.

Reflection

One thing that I learned more about myself is that when I stay focused and determined to something I can do that thing and continue doing it until it is done correct. I also learned that trying new ideas and different ideas is helpful and will open more opprotunities to complete the task. One thing that I need to work on is getting more people involved and being more of a vocal leader. Also just having a positive mindset and a motivational mindset to continue to work hard throughout the whole project.
