(Module 4 Topic 2 Lesson 1: Coordinate Plane)

Learning objective = Students extend the first quadrant of the coordinate plane to create the Cartesian coordinate plane. They identify points, plot points, and generalize the points located in each quadrant and points reflected across an axis. Students write an absolute value expression to calculate the distance between two horizontally or vertically aligned points on the coordinate plane.

Next, they draw translations and reflections of a triangle and identify the number of units and direction of translation as well as the lines of reflection in classmates drawings. To get the most from the lesson, students should be comfortable graphing points on the coordinate plane. Prior exposure to reflection is helpful.
