We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we gather today -
The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Don't forget to seek God's Love in your daily lives.
Lord, thank you for your boundless love for us. We are so grateful for your presence in our lives, your grace, and your unending mercy. We acknowledge that we are not always worthy of your love, but we trust in your unwavering affection. Help us to understand your love more deeply, and to love others as you have loved us. Grant us the strength and wisdom to reflect your love in our words and actions. May we be vessels of your love, reaching out to those in need and sharing the joy of your presence with the world.
In Jesus' name, we pray.

Student Achievement
An exciting opportunity has been extended to Landon from 5TS, who has qualified for the USA Kids Golf World Championships in North Carolina this July. Landon has worked exceptionally hard to earn his place in this prestigious event, which brings together talented young golfers from around the world.
This is a remarkable achievement and a true reflection of Landon’s dedication, skill, and passion for the sport. Competing at this level will not only mark a major milestone in his golfing journey but also offer valuable lessons in confidence, resilience, and discipline. Landon is part of a group at Northern Golf Club, and his coach has now created a joint GoFundMe for the entire group. If you wish to support Landon and the group please see the lInk below:

If you see Landon around the school, be sure to wish him all the very best!

Letter of Informed Consent - MACSSIS SURVEY
Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys (MACSSIS): Monday 1 September – Friday 19 September 2025
Throughout each year, we pause to listen to our students, families and staff to gauge how our learning community is travelling. This feedback is invaluable to our progress as effective school communities and is backed by evidence-based research and best practices.
A significant and formal way in which we engage and gather data is through MACSSIS, the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools – School Improvement Surveys.
MACSSIS is a set of surveys that have been built specifically for Catholic schools in Melbourne by the Learning Services team at MACS, in partnership with researchers at Learning First and in wide consultation with principals in our schools.
In 2025, students, families and staff are invited to participate in MACSSIS via our secure and purpose-built online platform. The online platform is where our school leaders will access the summary reports that visualise the results of the student, family and staff surveys.
The MACSSIS survey platform is operated by an independent supplier, ORIMA Research Pty Ltd. The platform meets with the high security and privacy standards for handling student and school data. Participating schools are in the process of updating their privacy policy to ensure school communities are fully informed and protected.
Students at our school will be provided with supervised sessions, where teachers are on hand to help and answer any questions. Families and staff can complete the survey anytime over the three-week window via an emailed link and password. Feedback has indicated that previous surveys were completed across a range of mobile devices and different web browsers. Schools will be providing more information about MACSSIS throughout Term 2 and 3, via newsletters and social media.
Our community’s opinions are critical to understanding how our school is performing – MACSSIS is a key data source for guiding the ongoing work to improve our school.
All participation is invited, welcomed and 100 per cent voluntary. The surveys are not a test; they are an inclusive way to support the work we are already doing to improve our school. Everyone has the right to refuse to participate, or withdraw from the survey at any point before, during or after completion of the survey. Please notify the school if your child does not wish to participate.
If you would like more information, please contact the school.
Yours sincerely,
David Hurn
Your child's Semester 1 Academic Report for 2025 will be issued at the end of the semester. This formal summative report complements the ongoing formative learning updates shared via Seesaw throughout Terms 1 and 2.
The Report will include a checklist of their work habits as well as a written comment by their class teacher focussing on your child as a learner. Alongside the general comment, teachers will highlight areas of strengths (what worked well) and where to next for your child’s learning (even better if).
The report will include:
Religious Education
Victorian Curriculum Learning Progression
Revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0).
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0).
All Victorian government schools will now use the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 for reporting. In your child's previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for Mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.
As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the Mathematics dot will only show achievement and not progress for this Semester. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.
The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.
For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10.
We would also like to inform parents of a change in how specialist subjects such as Music, Drama, Physical Education, and Art will be reported. Moving forward, these subjects will now be reported on an annual basis, rather than semesterly. This adjustment is due to the curriculum for these subjects being assessed over a two-year learning band. Given that our specialist teachers typically see students once a week, an annual report will provide a more comprehensive and accurate reflection of student progress and achievement within this extended curriculum timeframe.
Victorian Curriculum Learning Progression
A summary graph will indicate your child's progression along the Victorian Curriculum learning continuum. Your child’s progression will be displayed against a five point scale.
Please ensure you look at the position of the dot. If the dot is placed at the beginning (left edge) of the level, this indicates your child is beginning to work in this standard, but is 6 months below the standard for this time of the year.
Alternatively, if the dot is placed at the right edge of the level, this indicates your child is working within this standard, but is 6 months above the standard for this time of the year. A dot placed in the middle of the level indicates your child is working at the expected standard for this time of the year.
Please refer to the attached PDF for instructions on how to access your child's report. (Reports will be published on Wednesday 2nd July)
Important Note: As mentioned last year, the old nForma website has been decommissioned. To access your child's current and past reports, you will now need to download the nForma App from the iTunes or Google Play Store.
The nForma App is the sole platform for accessing school reports. School reports will be automatically published via the app and this will be the only way to access Reports.
Please follow the steps outlined in the PDF to get started.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Regards,
Sonia Mazzei - Learning & Teaching Leader
GEM Chats are questions and prompts designed to start a conversation or encourage your child to reflect on their Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. They provide a great opportunity to build connections between you and your children.
Our goal is to make asking these GEM questions a daily habit. By doing so, we can actively support students in developing gratitude.

Grade 2s Get Hands on with Measurement
This week, our Grade 2 students took their measurement unit outdoors for an exciting 'Pokemon Hunt!' They searched the playground for Pokemon and then measured the length of each one using unifix cubes. After recording their measurements in a table, students compared their findings with classmates. This sparked great discussion when they noticed some of their measurements were different. This discovery led them to an important understanding: informal units like unifix cubes aren't always precise forms of measurement. It was a fantastic way to learn about the challenges of accurate measurement in a fun and engaging way!
Ciao a tutti!
We hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. We are wrapping up our last unit for the term in the next week before assessment begins. I studenti have been most impressive in how far they have come with their conversational skills. Bravissimo! We would also like to share with you some snippets from a recent article published to MACS schools regarding the Teachers as Co-Learners (TCL) initiative.
Revolutionising F–6 Languages with the Teachers as Co-Learners initiative
By Chloe Briand, Lead Teaching and Learning Languages, Education Excellence, at Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS).
A whole-school approach
Promoting excellence and equity, TCL is a fully built F–6 Languages program offered in four languages (Auslan, French, Indonesian and Italian). It is evidence-based and implemented throughout the whole school, with students and teachers sharing the journey of being co-learners of an additional language.
While short daily classes provide the frequency required for effective learning and retention, the TCL pedagogical framework is grounded in the science of learning and incorporates contemporary applied linguistics and literacy acquisition principles to enhance effective language learning.
It is a highly scaffolded and structured program, supported by comprehensive digital and physical resources, where generalist classroom teachers teach and learn the language with their students, without the need for prior knowledge.
The groundbreaking Teachers as Co-Learners (TCL) program for primary Languages embodies this vision. As outlined in recent research from Deakin University, ‘TCL’s unique and multi-faceted approach holds significant potential for sustained impact in addressing intractable systemic challenges for Languages education provision in the Australian schooling context’ (Weinmann et al. in press).
Future directions
The upcoming research report from Deakin University into the effectiveness of the TCL program highlights these lived school experiences (Weinmann et al. in press). Research data revealed additional insights, including the program’s inclusivity, its positive impact on English literacy, and changes in teachers’ perceptions of their own potential professional growth.
In the conclusion, the report states that ‘TCL can potentially open the door to a world of learning that is both empathetic and compassionate in nature, emphasising a broader view of education which develops students’ responsive capacities, including resilience in a challenging world’ (Weinmann et al. in press).
This unique initiative distinguishes Catholic education by offering students and teachers opportunities to flourish. By making an impact on our local communities, TCL is a pioneer in Languages education which positions the Catholic sector at the forefront of educational innovation and excellence.
The TCL program is not only transforming Languages education in Victorian Catholic schools but is also garnering interest from international educational policy makers, including the British Association of Applied Linguistics.
We are so honoured to be part of this approach to learning languages here at STM.
Buon weekend!
From the TCL team
