John 20: 19–23
The Spirit will guide the Apostles to all truth.
Let your Spirit, our Advocate, guide us still — preserving us from judgment,
protecting us from sin, and leading us into righteousness, so that we may
testify to the good news: fullness of life and joy for all; through Jesus Christ
our Savior and in the unity of the Holy Spirit.

Dear Families,
I want to express my sincere appreciation for the time and support you dedicate to our school community. If you have completed the Parent Helper Course, please contact your child’s classroom teacher to discuss your availability to assist. When you sign in at the office, remember to show Mary your Working With Children Check (WWCC).
You may have noticed the new portable classrooms next to the basketball court, these will be completed in the coming weeks. This portable will assist with the refurbishment of the current building. To help with the completion of this project, there will be some movement of year levels and we will provide more information about these adjustments over the next week.
Congratulations to our students for their fantastic efforts at our recent Sports Day. It was an amazing event that our entire community enjoyed.
Currently, our Year 5 students are on camp at Mt. Evelyn, and we are sure they are having a wonderful time.
Next week, you will receive information about Parent-Teacher Chats which are scheduled for June 25 and 26 from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. These meetings are an excellent opportunity to discuss your child’s progress with their teacher.
We do have some staff members taking leave over the next two terms for various reasons. Please be assured that we are doing our best to ensure continuity and quality in our teaching staff, despite this being a widespread challenge across many schools. Teacher shortage is a significant issue that is affecting many schools across Victoria, including ours. We understand the concerns it raises for our community. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and understanding as we navigate these difficulties. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated as we strive to maintain a stable and supportive learning environment for our students. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Please note that the Church Car Park will be closed on Monday, May 27, to allow for the safe access of concrete trucks and the landing of a pump. Traffic management will be in place to ensure safety at the North Street entrance. All foot traffic to STM from North Street will be via the timber gate in the fence through Tony Mommsen Reserve. This will help eliminate any safety issues with concrete trucks exiting via the driveway to North Street. There will be no vehicle access via the church car park for drop-off and pick-up on this day. Please plan accordingly and allow for potential delays due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. Angus Street drop-off, pick-up, and foot access will not be impacted.
Finally, please note that Tuesday, June 11, is a Student Free Day. Our staff will be engaged in professional development to enhance our learning and teaching practices.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in maintaining the safety and smooth operation of our school community.
Warm regards,
David Hurn
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We are looking to enhance our classrooms with a variety of board games and card games for our students. These items play a crucial role in fostering social skills, critical thinking, and creativity among learners. We are kindly asking for your support through donations of new or gently used boardgames and card games. Your contributions will greatly enrich student learning experience and provide them with enjoyable, educational playtime, particularly during wet weather programs. If you have any items you'd like to donate, please bring them to your child's classroom teacher. Thank you for your generosity and support.
Please see below for the Term 2 Overviews.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your attendance at our Learning Showcases. Your presence not only encourages our children but also strengthens our bond as a community dedicated to their growth. Your enthusiasm to witness the children's progress is truly inspiring. Together, we create an environment where education flourishes and curiosity thrives. Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to our shared journey of learning and discovery. Your involvement is invaluable in shaping the bright futures of our students.

Reading Matters!
Reading is crucial for your child's development. It not only improves their language and literacy skills but also sparks their imagination and creativity. Regular reading helps children build a strong vocabulary, understand the world around them, and develop empathy by seeing life from different perspectives. Encouraging your child to read daily sets the foundation for lifelong learning and success.
Here are some wonderful statistics that demonstrate how much students benefit from just 10 minutes of reading daily.
Author's Corner
This week, we are excited to share two writing samples from our Year 5 students. They were given the image below as a prompt for their writing. Students were encouraged to incorporate figurative language to enhance their writing and engage their readers. Can you identify any similes, metaphors, or personification in their work?
Smoke surrounds me as if it is hugging me. The sounds of bombs explode in my ears. like it is telling me that it's not safe to be here. Heat shoots at my frozen face, turning it into a fireball. Smokey clouds howl, with anger determined to drag the summer sky along with them. Ash slides into my mouth, trickling down my throat. Buildings break down into millions of pieces, disappearing into ash, slithering into my smokey nose.
People scream and cry for hours and hours until, they fade away into the heaven's sky. I stand and watch, trying to go into the unbearable war zone. The ocean water stops me when I see poisonous jelly fish waiting for me.
I pray and pray that my family is safe. But then once again they rest in peace fading into the heaven's sky. I cry and scream on and on all night long, hearing less and less screaming. Until I fall asleep, dreaming of family and friends in the long ago summer sky.
By Sienna (year 5)
When my eyes open, big dark clusters of clouds engulf the sun's luminous rays. Missiles and fire are now our only sources of light. The screams of unfortunate people clog my ears up. They're dying out like bees losing their stinger and dropping out of their life. My sorrow grows as their screams get softer. My guilt destroys my body for not helping and letting the innocent lose lives.
The freezing steel of my bike reminds me of the only thing that I have left, and how much more difficult my life will be now. Debris and ash charges right into my mouth, it tastes so disgraceful and depressing like the most horrid thing you've ever tasted.
Next, the ash and debris roll into my lungs and stick into the skin making it harder to breathe. Just like glue sticking to paper. I whisper to myself..."What have I done?".

Ciao a tutti!
This week the studenti are learning about colours in Italian to use in context to the previous language learnt.
For example, Posso avere il libro nero? (Can I have the black pencil).
Please see the table below for the language focus for the next 2 weeks:
We also encourage translanguaging to ensure students are feeling confident in communicating and also communicating in complete sentences. They do this by replacing the words they don’t yet know with English. For example; Posso avere a sandwich per favore?
You might like to encourage your children to make requests for things in Italian like this.
