We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we gather today -
The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Last week across Australia we stopped to raise an awareness of the story of our indigenous brothers and sisters. We recall the historic day that Prime Minister Rudd apologised to the stolen generation pledging to work together for reconciliation. At St Thomas More we prayed , acknowldeged our first people, read stories about their traditions and culture and completed some activities to promote the theme of 'Now more than ever'. The year two students discovered that we can find our heart with Aboriginal people to foster mutual respect and understanding.
Lord, us to join our hands and hearts together. Help us to heal one another and the land, so that our lives may flow with harmony and that we may live with love and deep respect. Amen.

Learning Spaces Relocation: Letters were sent out to Year 1 and Year 4 communities about the relocation of learning spaces due to refurbishment needs. Below is a map indicating where students will be relocated for Term 3.
Expect to see more builders on-site over the coming weeks. Access at the rear of the school through the Church Car Park may change slightly. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
OSHClub Relocation Due to the relocation of classes, OSHClub will be moved to the school library starting from week 11 (beginning Monday, June 24). Access to OSHClub will remain unchanged, and further details will be communicated to families soon.
Church Car Park Usage: We are grateful to Father Giang for his generosity in allowing us access to the Church Car Park, and it is essential that we respect this space as it is not part of the school grounds.
Please ensure that you park responsibly, avoiding any obstruction of the exit driveway. Blocking the exit prevents smooth traffic flow and can cause significant inconvenience for other families and visitors.
Additionally, we must be mindful of the workers who are currently engaged in the construction of the Child Care Centre. Your cooperation in parking considerately and ensuring that their work environment remains safe and accessible is greatly appreciated.
Let's all commit to being respectful and considerate of others while using this shared space. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Thank you for your understanding and support as we continue to improve our school facilities and environment.
Warm regards,
David Hurn

I hope you are enjoying TRP parent portal that was sent to you via email. Incase you missed the email here is the link: https://theresilienceproject.com.au/at-home/parents-2023/
Listen to the Podcast where Dr Em brings some brilliant insights to The Imperfects as they discuss harmony in relationships, and how sometimes compromising our needs to keep the peace can lead to more issues. This is just as relevant for the parent-child dynamic, and highlights the importance of mindfulness or taking time out to look after yourself first to be able to show up better for the kids.
Activity: Take this moment to reflect on what personal needs or desires you have put on hold with the mindset “the kids come first”. As discussed in this video, putting your needs first can actually put you in a better position to then be there for your family without resentment. Think of some tasks or activities that you’d like to do for you, and schedule them in your calendar as a non-negotiable 20 minutes or 1 hour for yourself.
Phonological Awareness
Phonological Awareness is a crucial foundational skill for young readers, involving the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. It plays a significant role in early reading development, as it helps children understand the relationship between sounds and letters, ultimately aiding in decoding and word recognition. By engaging in activities like rhyming, segmenting, and blending sounds, children develop stronger reading and writing skills. You can encourage Phonological Awareness development at home through playful and interactive activities, such as singing songs, reading aloud, and playing word games. These can greatly support your child's literacy journey.
In future newsletters, we will unpack the following skills that build Phonological Awareness.
Words into syllables
Rhyme awareness and production
Alliteration
Onset and Rime
Initial and Final Sound Identification
Blending Sounds into words
Segmenting Words into sounds
Deleting and Manipulating Sounds
Author's Corner
This week, we showcase writing samples from our year 4 students, who have been exploring various countries and cultures. They have been practising the skill of paraphrasing: firstly reading information, identifying important facts and details, taking notes and then transferring their notes into a paragraph.
Language
Most of Italy's population speaks Italian and English. Italian handwriting is in cursive and written in Italian, it can depend on how the writing is because sometimes it can look like a font used in the roman empire but sometimes it can look like a normal cursive written in Italian. Italian became the official language in 1861 and before that Italians spoke Latin. The Italian alphabet only has twenty one letters and some Italian words are misused in English. Italy invented hand gestures which people use in everyday life. Italians would use hand gestures during times when wars were happening because it was too dangerous to speak out loud. Italians are known for speaking Italian but they also can speak other languages.

Peru's Landscapes
Peru gives some gorgeous experiences you can visit, including the astounding Andes Mountain itself and the gigantic miscellaneous Amazon Rainforest. There are so many animal habitats... it never ends! Landscapes like these two are what attract visitors to Peru. People from different cultures are driven to Peru's beauty. And let me tell you, you won't regret a visit.

Culture, Customs and Traditions
Scotland has many different cultures, customs and traditions. Scotland mainly plays rugby. The Scottish cup is one of the oldest sports trophies in the world. Scotland celebrates Burns Night which is on the 25th of January. The day celebrates a famous poet named Robert Burns. St Andrews cross is the national flag. It's a white cross on a blue background. Scottish people enjoy many different sports.

Ciao a tutti!
We would just like to formally congratulate all the studenti on their efforts, participation and how far they have come with their learning of Italiano this term. Their abilities to engage in conversation and include language from all the units since the start of the year to build their conversations into more meaningful ones, proves that this approach works. It’s vigorous, repetitive and purposeful in nature, which makes it easy to retain and use in everyday conversation scenarios. Our teachers have been the driving force behind this and we are incredibly grateful for their support and enthusiasm when learning alongside their students.
Over the next two weeks the students will be revising this term’s language and engaging in some end of term assessment. Don’t forget to continue to support us by engaging in some italiano at home too!
Grazie e arrivederci!
