We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which we gather today -
The Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Eternal Father, we commend to your merciful love the souls of your faithful departed. O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
We pray this day for all souls, both known and unknown to me, who, although touched by death, have not yet entered Your Heavenly Kingdom.May perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.
Amen.

Dear Families,
As we approach the end of Week 4 in Term 4, we’re reminded of how swiftly the term is moving, and it’s wonderful to see students and staff engaging so positively across our school community.
Last Friday, we joined the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) in celebrating World Teachers’ Day, with this year’s theme being “Hats off to Teachers.” Teachers play an invaluable role in shaping the future of our students, and they deserve our gratitude and respect for their incredible commitment and impact on student learning. This day was a special occasion to reflect on their dedication and the positive influence they have on the lives of our young learners.
Thank you to the families who attended the Year 3 and Year 5 Family Faith Nights on Tuesday, 29 October from 6 - 7pm in your child’s classroom. Our goal is to foster a sense of community within our school while celebrating our shared Catholic identity. During this evening, we explored a Scripture story together, joining in prayer and reflection. Your presence helps strengthen our school community, and we are grateful for your involvement.
Wearing our school uniform with pride is a key part of our identity at STM, symbolising our shared values and commitment to our school community. We ask families to check that uniforms are worn correctly and that all items, including accessories, align with our guidelines. This also means that a combination of school and sports uniform is not permitted. Teachers will be supporting this by monitoring uniforms and ensuring consistency. As misplaced items can be common, please ensure your child’s uniform is clearly labelled.
This term children are expected to wear their hats during play and the 'No Hat No Play' rule comes back in.
Parents are encouraged to apply and/or provide their child with sunscreen on days that require it.
Hats that are frayed, or curled up or in poor condition will need to be replaced so please encourage your children to look after their hats.
The following exceptions will be permitted:
Students are encouraged to wear black, leather school shoes with their uniform (not multi-coloured runners). Only completely black runners will be permitted.
Students should have a maroon, woolen jumper to wear with their summer and winter uniforms. The sports jacket is not to be worn as a replacement for this jumper but the spray jacket will be permitted.
ONLY Grade 6 students are permitted to wear their special Year 6 sports jacket (with student names on it) with their summer and winter uniforms. This is a privilege set aside for Grade 6 students in their graduating year.
The new school year will soon be upon us! We are excited to welcome students back for 2025, starting with two testing days on Thursday, 30 January, and Friday, 31 January, by appointment only. Links for booking appointments will be sent in the coming weeks. Classes will officially commence on Monday, 3 February. If your child will not be returning to STM in 2025, please notify us via email at dhurn@stmhadfield.catholic.edu.au at your earliest convenience to assist in our planning.
Creating balanced class lists that meet the social, emotional, and educational needs of all students is a priority. While we consider various factors and individual requests, we may not be able to fulfil all specific preferences due to the complex nature of this task. We thank you for your trust and understanding as we work to foster a supportive learning environment.
A letter detailing the school fees and levies for the 2025 academic year will be emailed shortly. We aim to provide transparency around these fees, supporting you in planning ahead for the year.
Students and staff are settling into the newly refurbished classrooms, with some classes in temporary spaces as the second stage of the building upgrade progresses. Thank you for your patience and support during this improvement.
Congratulations to our students from Experience Music, who performed beautifully at their recitals last week. STM is proud to support the Arts, recognising their importance in developing well-rounded students.
A huge thank you to all who contributed to our recent Colour Run. A special thank you goes to Sofica Orfini-Aitken for allowing students to ‘slime’ her in celebration of our fundraising efforts! We still need more volunteers for the actual Colour Run on Thursday, November 21st, from approximately 2:15 PM to 3:20 PM. Volunteers will be stationed to throw coloured powder at the kids using the provided colour tubes.
For more event details, please refer to the Operoo Permission Form that has been sent out.
Yesterday morning, we were saddened by the tragic accident at Auburn South Primary School, where a life was lost. Our thoughts and prayers are with their community, especially the grieving family. This serves as a sobering reminder of the preciousness of each day and the importance of safety.
As you drop off and pick up your children, please:
Use the patrolled crossing, even if it means a slight detour from where you’ve parked.
Look both ways when crossing, regardless of a crossing guard’s presence.
Drive carefully and keep an eye out for pedestrians, no matter how rushed you may be.
Take extra care in the Church car park, which many families use. It is not school property, so we ask everyone to be especially respectful and vigilant.
Kind regards
David Hurn
Dear families,
We are excited to announce that our school will be celebrating A GEM (gratitude, empathy and mindfulness) Wellbeing Day on Thursday 21st November. As part of the festivities, we're planning a special activity called "Gratitude Jars."
To participate, we kindly request that each student brings a small, clear jar to school by Friday 15th November. These jars will be used to collect positive affirmations, inspiring quotes, or simply things that make the students and their families feel grateful.
By creating gratitude jars, students will have the opportunity to reflect on the good things in their lives and foster a sense of wellbeing.
As part of our celebration day we warmly invite parents to attend from 11:30am for a Sausage sizzle and to participate in GEM activities in the classroom. The day will conclude with the Colour Run at 2:30pm. More information will be coming soon!
Thank you for your support in making the day a memorable and enriching experience for our students.

Author's Corner
Our year 3 students have looked closely at the picture story book LittleLight by Kelly Canby. This story involves the overprotective Mayor of Littlelight who is resistant to change and who is hesitant to see what the world is like beyond the town's walls. Students completed a task called a Silent Back and Forth, where they put themselves into the shoes of two characters and converse silently back and forth through writing only.
Littlelight Resident & The Mayor
Mayor: We need to get our bricks back!
Resident: Yes, yes, we all need walls to protect us from the unusual things!
Mayor: We have to find the brick thief immediately!
Resident: I agree we need to find the brick their before all the walls start collapsing.
Mayor: Let’s try to find him or her now.
Resident: Okay but we do not want to eat new food, read new books, or listen to offbeat music.
Mayor: She’s not in the Southern or Northern side.
Resident: She’s not on the Western or the Eastern side so she must still be in Littlelight.
Mayor: There she is! Get her!
by Hudson and Luciano
The Mayor and the Little Girl
Girl: Ha Ha Ha I shall steal every brick!
Mayor: What the heck do you think you are doing?!
Girl: I was just trying to help…
Mayor: But these bricks protect all of us.
Girl: But…
Mayor: NO BUTS! I will protect everyone.
Girl: Don’t you see these people are happy now?
Mayor: WELL I’M NOT!!
Girl: Well I’ll build a wall to protect you.
Mayor: Make it quickly, they're coming!

Oz Rocks Competition is open for students from year 2-6 from Wedenesday the 6th- 8th of November. Teachers have the user names and passwords and will give them to your child.
Learners will try to answer as many multiplication and division questions correctly as they can. The winning school and class will be based on the highest average number of correct answers per pupil.
Every correct answer that a student gives, in any game type will contribute to their class and school score.
There is a 60-minute limit playtime per player, per day.
Each class has a minimum player count of 10. If fewer than 10 in the class play in the competition, their total will be divided by 10 regardless.

Are your children playing Roblox? Have you checked crucial settings to make sure your child is safe online? Please read this article by the Cyber Safety Project for important information and instructions on how you can limit what games your children have access to and who they can communicate with.
Please remember, Roblox is a gaming platform where 'amateur' game creators can create and upload games with content inappropriate for young children.
Roblox can be a safe platform when parental controls are used, and children are monitored while playing.
