Father's Day
On Monday morning (26th August), we will host the STM Father’s Day Breakfast, divided into three half-hour sessions. We're currently seeking assistance for the 8:30-9:00am and 9:00am- 9:30am time slots. If you're available to help, kindly add your name to the Father’s Day helpers spreadsheet here: Father's Day (breakfast) Helpers
Additionally, on Thursday, 29th August, we'll have the Father’s Day Stall in the staff room (more details to come via email and in the school newsletter). This event relies on parental support for success. While some parents have graciously signed up to assist (THANK YOU), we still require a minimum of 10 helpers per session for the stall to operate smoothly. The day will be split into two sessions. If you can spare even just an hour, please consider adding your name to the Father’s Day helpers list here: Father's Day (stall) Helpers
Lisa Salemme will reach out to all parents who've offered their assistance by Wednesday 21st August. We extend our heartfelt gratitude for your support. Please understand that these events depend on your partnership, and we truly value it.
Thanks in advance.
Dear Families,
We're already halfway through the term, and it's been a whirlwind of activity at STM! Our building works are progressing steadily, despite some minor delays. The good news is that we're on track to avoid any disruptions to classes for the rest of the term.
A huge shout-out to our amazing staff for making Book Week such a memorable success! The children looked fantastic, and it was truly one of the best Book Weeks I've experienced in a long time. A big thank you to our Literacy Leader, Michelle Rinaldi, and the incredible Lou Eveston for their exceptional leadership. Reading truly is magic!
Important Information: Father's Day Breakfast
As we approach Father's Day on Monday, 26th August, we'd like to provide some important information regarding parking. To ensure a smooth and safe morning, please park in the church car park (North Street entrance) for your allocated session. Please use only the assigned car spaces. Due to ongoing construction, parking on the grass is strictly prohibited. If the church car park is full, please park on North Street.
We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring ample space for drop-offs. Any cars parked on the grass or in non-allocated spaces will be asked to move.
Please note that the breakfast will take place in classrooms due to current renovations. Line up for your pancakes and hot drinks at the hall stage, and then proceed promptly to your child's classroom. If you're available to help, please add your name to the Father's Day helpers spreadsheet (more information below).

Italian Language Success
I'm incredibly impressed by how our students are using Italian in class and around the school! It's wonderful to be greeted each morning with new phrases. A big thank you to our staff for their commitment to teaching Italian and to Adriana Bonacci and Maria Vainieri for their invaluable support.
Father's Day Stall
Don't forget about our Father's Day Stall on Thursday, 29th August! Due to school renovations, the stall will be held in the staff room. This is a great opportunity for children to buy something special for their dads or other special people - gifts will range from $1 - $10.
Footy Colours Day
On Friday, 30th August, we'll be celebrating Footy Colours Day. This is a Gold coin donation (or via CDFPay) to support the Fight Cancer Foundation. I'm looking forward to seeing as many children wearing their favourite football jumpers as possible!
Swimming in Schools Program
Our Swimming in Schools Program will commence very soon! This program is compulsory for all students from Prep to Year 6. It will start for Prep to Year 3 students on Monday 2nd September and for Year 4 to Year 6 students on Monday, 9th September. We'll be swimming at the indoor pool at Coburg Leisure Centre. All students, from Prep to Year 6, will receive a total of five, 45-minute swimming lessons. An Operoo permission form has been sent to all families.
Arts Festival
I'm also very excited about our upcoming Arts Festival, which will take place on Thursday, 19th September, from 5 PM. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their artistic talents through the Visual, Musical, and Performing Arts.
The festival will feature an Art Gallery of student work, an auction of class art pieces, and live performances from our very own 'STM Factor.' There will also be food trucks on site, so you can enjoy a delicious dinner while watching the show.
More information about tickets to the evening will follow shortly.
Farewell to Grace Grech
We wish Grace Grech all the best as she goes on maternity leave. Grace has been an integral part of our school community for many years. She is expecting her first child and will conclude teaching Year 6 GG this Friday. We are grateful for her dedication, passion, and knowledge and we look forward to her return in the future.

Book Week at St Thomas More was a fantastic success! Our students, teachers, and staff embraced the theme of "Reading is Magic" with incredible enthusiasm.
On Monday, our school was transformed into a world of imagination as students arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. The Book Week parade was a colourful and vibrant spectacle, showcasing the creativity and excitement of our young readers.
Throughout the week, our classrooms and library were buzzing with reading activities, book discussions, and art related tasks. Our STM Masked Reader event was a highlight of the week, with students eagerly participating in the storytelling fun and guessing the staff member behind the mask. A special thank you to Ms Lou our librarian, for her wonderful work in helping to organise this week and promoting a love of reading throughout the year. Thank you to Rita C for organising and selling the Book Week Cookies at the canteen and a big thanks to Kate Mackintosh for her digi-tech expertise and sharing the joy of Book Week through our socials.
We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to our parents for their support in making Book Week such a memorable experience. Your involvement in your child's reading journey is invaluable.
As we close out Book Week, we invite all students to test their knowledge and have some fun with Ms. Lou's book quiz. This exciting event will be a great way to celebrate the week and reinforce the importance of reading.
We hope that Book Week has inspired our students to continue exploring the wonderful world of books and discovering their own magic through reading.
Michelle Rinaldi
Acting Literacy Leader
Buongiorno a tutti!
This term i studenti have been busy learning how to ask and respond to questions about school activities they like (mi piace) and don't like (non mi piace). Last week, they were given the opportunity to revise and reflect on their language acquisition so far this term and they were able to rate how they are going, set a goal and share it with you on seesaw. Over the next few weeks, they will build on this unit's language by incorporating the following vocabulary:
Our goal for the second semester of the year is for i studenti to practise using the language in context throughout the day. The teachers and students have a goal to use the following phrases in class and at the canteen.
We encourage translanguaging to ensure students are feeling confident in communicating and composing complete sentences. They do this by replacing the words they don’t yet know with English. For example; Posso avere a sandwich per favore?
You might like to encourage your children to make requests for things in Italian like this.
