Dear Families,
As we wrap up another busy and rewarding term, I’d like to wish all of our families a safe, restful, and warm mid-year break. This will be our final newsletter for the term, and I thank you for your continued support throughout. A reminder that the last day of term is Friday 4 July, with an early finish at 12:00pm. Please note that the canteen will be closed, and students are invited to wear casual clothes on the day. We kindly ask for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation—a wonderful cause we are proud to support.
As we approach the end of the semester, a reminder that your child’s Semester 1 Academic Report for 2025 will be released. This report provides a formal summary of your child’s learning progress and achievement and complements the ongoing updates shared through Seesaw across Terms 1 and 2. Reports will be published on Wednesday 2 July. Please refer to the attached PDF for instructions on how to access your child’s report.
We are also thrilled to share that STM has been gifted a Peace Pole, thanks to the generosity of the Pascoe Vale Rotary Club, and in particular, Deborah D’Aprano, a dedicated volunteer who helped bring this project to life. The Peace Pole will serve as a symbol of hope, unity and reflection within our school grounds, displaying the message “May Peace Prevail On Earth” in four languages that reflect our beautifully diverse school community. We thank all who joined us for the official ceremony this morning and extend our gratitude to our special guests: Father Giang, Deborah D’Aprano, local member Kathleen Matthews-Ward, and Merri-bek Mayor Helen Davidson.
Next Thursday at 10:00am, our Year 4 students will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This is a deeply important step in their faith journey and we wish them all the very best. A heartfelt thank you to our Year 4 teachers and Clara Privitera for the care and dedication in preparing the students so beautifully.
Meanwhile, our Year 5 students are heading off to camp at Mt Evelyn next week! We hope they have a fantastic time filled with fun, learning and friendship. A big thank you to the staff who are attending and supporting this enriching experience.
Looking ahead, we would like to inform families that Parent/Teacher Interviews will be held on Wednesday 27 August. This will be a half-day for students, who will finish at 12:00pm.
We are also absolutely thrilled to invite you to our upcoming Grandparents/Special Persons Morning next term. This cherished morning is a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate the important people in their lives who have helped them learn and grow. This special event will be held on Friday 25 July, we look forward to welcoming many familiar faces on the day!
Next term, we are excited to be welcoming our 2026 Prep students to STM! Transition sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, and information has already been sent to the families involved. We will also be continuing our Thomas Tales program, which will now run on Tuesday mornings at 10:00am in the Library from term 3. We look forward to seeing many of our littlest learners joining in!
Thank you again for a wonderful term, stay safe, enjoy the holidays, and we look forward to seeing everyone back for Term 3!
Warm regards,
David Hurn
Principal
Your child's Semester 1 Academic Report for 2025 will be issued at the end of the semester. This formal summative report complements the ongoing formative learning updates shared via Seesaw throughout Terms 1 and 2.
The Report will include a checklist of their work habits as well as a written comment by their class teacher focussing on your child as a learner. Alongside the general comment, teachers will highlight areas of strengths (what worked well) and where to next for your child’s learning (even better if).
The report will include:
Religious Education
Victorian Curriculum Learning Progression
Revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0).
The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised Mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0).
All Victorian government schools will now use the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 for reporting. In your child's previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for Mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.
As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the Mathematics dot will only show achievement and not progress for this Semester. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.
The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.
For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10.
Victorian Curriculum Learning Progression
A summary graph will indicate your child's progression along the Victorian Curriculum learning continuum. Your child’s progression will be displayed against a five point scale.
Please ensure you look at the position of the dot. If the dot is placed at the beginning (left edge) of the level, this indicates your child is beginning to work in this standard, but is 6 months below the standard for this time of the year.
Alternatively, if the dot is placed at the right edge of the level, this indicates your child is working within this standard, but is 6 months above the standard for this time of the year. A dot placed in the middle of the level indicates your child is working at the expected standard for this time of the year.
Please refer to the attached PDF for instructions on how to access your child's report. (Reports will be published on Wednesday 2nd July)
Important Note: As mentioned last year, the old nForma website has been decommissioned. To access your child's current and past reports, you will now need to download the nForma App from the iTunes or Google Play Store.
The nForma App is the sole platform for accessing school reports. School reports will be automatically published via the app and this will be the only way to access Reports.
Please follow the steps outlined in the PDF to get started. Thank you for your cooperation.
Regards,
Sonia Mazzei - Learning & Teaching Leader
GEM Chats are questions and prompts designed to start a conversation or encourage your child to reflect on their Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. They provide a great opportunity to build connections between you and your children.
Our goal is to make asking these GEM questions a daily habit. By doing so, we can actively support students in developing gratitude.

Throughout the term, our curious Grade 2 students have been busy exploring the world of science! They planned and carried out fun, hands-on experiments and turned their discoveries into scientific reports.
As part of their learning, students made predictions, recorded observations, listed the steps of their experiments, drew detailed diagrams and reflected on what they learnt. To showcase their hard work, they published their reports using Google Slides — and the results were impressive!
It’s been wonderful to see the students working like real scientists, asking questions, testing ideas and proudly sharing their findings with others.
