Steps to complete your self-portrait:
- Open & copy template and then copy & paste it into a new image in Pinta. To get an idea of where each feature should be, check this out. Here's how the drawing on the original template turned out.
- Save your self-portrait as 6th-YourName in the Pictures folder as a .ORA file type.
- Add a new layer and draw the outline of your head, neck & shoulders on a new layer - do NOT fill in your head with skin color, yet! (Video Tutorial)
- Add a new layer and draw one of your eyes (Video Tutorial) including:
- The shape of the eye
- Fill in the white of the eye
- Draw the iris (the color part of your eye) by using the paintbrush and changing the width of the brush so it fills the inside of the eye and then clicking.
- Draw the pupil in the same way you drew the iris.
- Add a light to the eye - you may want to wait to do this until after you have completed step 5.
- Duplicate the eye layer and then use Edit/Flip Horizontal to create your other eye.
- Add catch lights to the eyes, optional
- Add eyelashes, optional
- Continue adding new layers to draw:
- Once all facial features & ears are done:
- Select your Head & Shoulders (Outline) layer
- Add your skin color to your face and neck and shoulders (Watch this Video Tutorial starting at about 2:50 to see how to set skin tone)
- Save your self-portrait at this point
- Delete the background layer.
- Combine all of your layers using Image / Flatten Image
- Select File / Save As and save the flattened self-portrait as a file type PNG. Do not change the name, just the type of file.
- Finish and save your drawing:
