Done? Video your Sphero successfully navigating the maze
May 16th - 23rd:
Program Sphero through your created maze in 2 teams - one starting at the beginning & one at the end
May 9th & 11th:
Whole Class: Why did Sphero not draw an exact square?
Programming Sphero through a maze/obstacle course
May 2nd & 4th:
Sphero Inquiry:
How far does Sphero go at 50% speed for 1 second? Or 1.5 seconds? Or 2 seconds?
What about at 40% speed or 60% or 100% speed for those times?
How can you figure out an angle of turn? What might you use for that?
Drawing shapes with Sphero:
Program your Sphero to draw a square using a repeat block & use the yarn to mark the edges
Program your Sphero to draw a triangle using a repeat block & use the yarn to mark the edges
Pick either a pentagon, hexagon, or octagon and program your Sphero to draw one of those. Use the yarn to mark the edges
April 25th & 27th:
Introduction to Sphero:
How to aim
How to drive
How to program in Tickle app
Aim and drive Sphero to the middle of the target and then back to you
Program Sphero to stop in the middle of the target. Some helpful ideas:
Figure out how far Sphero goes at a certain speed
Measure distance you want to go
Target Game:
There are 4 rounds to the game (each player on a team goes twice)
Which team goes first is determined randomly for the 1st round and then the team with the lowest score can determine the order in each of the next rounds
Must use Tickle App to program your Sphero to the target. Each person must write their own code. You can save & rerun your code but you can not use your teammates code.
Goal is to get the highest score you can:
1st 2 rounds each team goes individually (no other Spheros on the target)
Last 2 rounds teams go in order but Spheros are left on target and you may knock a Sphero out of position
Open your Keyboarding Speed Test spreadsheet in Excel and change the column heading for Column C to be today's date
Take all five speed tests recording your CALCULATED speed for each test. You may take each test twice and then record the best of the two CALCULATED speeds! Remember, the time starts when you start typing and you can use the backspace key to correct mistakes on these tests!

Work on assignment 008 - Inventor Tour Google Site Post
February 29th - March 7th:
Whole Class: Progress Check-in
Tour Builder Introduction: Introduce your inventor. Do not include details like parents or when they were born, etc.. It's okay to include what they invented. Make sure you say this is a tour of places important in their life. Do not say "early" life or "part" of their life - you are covering from birth to death; that is their whole life. Don't say "stuff" in your introduction.
Tour Builder Places: It would be a good idea to include the state or country on the location. Tour Builder removes this but it would be good to add it back after you have added the place to the tour. Make sure you are including all of the information from your research document and that it is properly formatted. If you copied and pasted and pressed enter in your research, it won't format correctly when you put into tour builder. This needs to be in full sentences.
Sign in to Google Classroom and continue working in Tour Builder on the tour of your inventor's life. Please add a link to your tour on the assignment.
If done, lessons in Mavis Beacon
February 10th - 24th:
Whole Class: Brief introduction to Tour Builder
Sign in to Google Classroom and continue working on assignment 007 - Inventor Important Places:
Make sure that the information for each place is written in complete sentences and that you use the name of the inventor before you refer to them as he or she.
Make sure that the information for each place is written in 3rd person: John Smith was born NOT I was born.
Once your information is complete, you will go to Tour Builder and build a tour of the important places in your inventor's life. Make sure to watch the videos in Google Classroom for details on how to do this.
January 27th - February 8th:
Lessons in Mavis Beacon
Whole Class: Introduction to Assignment 007 - Inventor Important Places
Sign in to Google Classroom and work on assignment 007 - Inventor Important Places:
You must try to have at least 5 important places (this may not be possible for some inventors but if it is you MUST have at least 5) and the places need to be specific - for example, not California but Winnetka, CA or even a complete address, if you have it. Each place must be on a separate row in the table.
You must include where your inventor was born.
You must include where your inventor died (and can include where they are buried if that is different).
You must include somewhere your inventor lived and/or worked when they invented or discovered something you talked about in your report. You can include additional things not in your report, if you wish.
For each place, include why that place is important. What happened there? Add details. For example, if it is where your inventor was born, add information about who their parents were and what kinds of jobs the parents held. If it is where your inventor discovered or invented something, include some details about the invention or discovery. If it is where your inventor died, include how old they were when they died and what caused their death.

If you have a completed game (Level 15), get the link to it and ADD that to the assignment and then turn it in.
Work on assignment 005 Google Site Post for Hour of Code:
Run your Star Wars game - use the link you posted on assignment 004 - and take a screenshot of your game. Download this to the My Pictures folder and save it as 5th-YourName-StarWars or 5th-YourName-HOC
Add a post to your Google Site describing what you did for the Hour of Code. Include a link to the Code.org Star Wars levels that you completed - link to puzzle 1.
Add the screenshot of your game and link it to the game you created. Make sure to explain how to win your game or what to avoid so you don't lose. Make sure to tell people to click on the picture to play your game. It would be a good idea to tell people that when they are in the game if they click the "See How it Works" button, they will be able to see your code.
Add a paragraph about how you felt about the Hour of Code this year. Did you enjoy it? Why or why not? How did using the JavaScript blocks and code compare to using Scratch-type blocks? Would you like to learn more JavaScript? Why or why not?
Turn in the assignment by ADDing a link to your Google Site post and then pressing the TURN IN button.
