In today’s healthcare world, many events occur that cause primary and secondary trauma among healthcare workers. The findings showed a lack of support from co-workers and leaders in the facility now more than ever. While research currently reveals less support for traumatized workers in the past, we also know that improved support can lead to less burnout and better staff retention. A survey was conducted that consisted of twenty-five questions sent to two hundred registered nurses and psychiatric technicians that helped to see where the system is now. There were fifty responses. This presentation will describe the importance of peer support, why leading in a trauma-informed way is beneficial, and primary and secondary trauma and its effect on workers.
