B - 30th Ordinary

Seeing Christ

In worship this week, we have been looking ahead to the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time (Year B) and the famous account of blind Bartimaeus. He implores Jesus to return his sight. In response, Jesus explains that it is Bartimaeus's faith that has saved him.

We can so easily take our sight for granted - the ability to see is a remarkable gift from God and our sight also helps us to witness to his transforming work in our world.

So, we are asking children this week what amazing things their eyes have seen: what moments of awe and wonder have they enjoyed? We then want to take the theme a little deeper and encourage children to consider where they "see" Christ at work in our community.

St Edward's Day Celebrations

At some point during the year, each class will celebrate their saint's feast day. This week we saw 3E taking some time out to celebrate their patron. The children recalled facts they already knew about St Edward (e.g he was King of England, he is buried in Westminster Abbey and people believed he helped heal them). We then learnt about Marie Curie, a female scientist who is best known for her work on radioactivity which helps people with illnesses today. Continuing the theme of healing, on Monday all of Year 3 had the opportunity to see inside an ambulance and hear how a nurse and a paramedic help very young babies. It was fascinating to see all the equipment they use and hear about their very important work.

B - 30th Ordinary Witness

The Gift of Sight

Miss Egan led the most beautiful Witness Worship today, sharing with us the life and successes of Helen Keller.

Helen lost both her sight and hearing as a small child and, for a long time, she struggled to understand and communicate her thoughts, needs and desires.

However, with time, support and tremendous courage she went on to be a hugely successful student - graduating from university - and a champion for the rights and needs of blind people all over the world.

Helen travelled globally to share her story and is celebrated for her incredible sense of determination in the face of adversity.

Congratulations to the cast of our Infant Drama Club, who performed a beautiful rendition of Bella Bella Cinderella for the admiring crowds that gathered on Tuesday evening. What little stars you are!
