Living in Unity

In worship this week, we are focusing on the idea of unity - Jesus asks us to put the needs of others first and learn to move forward as a community in union with one another. It is through our shared sense of mission and purpose that we find God present in our world. Just as Jesus welcomes the little children into his ministry in this week's Gospel, we too need to be open-hearted to the smallest and most vulnerable in our world in order to build unity. One of the ways we achieve this is through our RRS focus...

And we are very pleased and proud to announce that St Joseph's has recently been awarded GOLD Rights Respecting Schools Status for teaching about, through and for rights. We have enjoyed a week of celebrations!

RRS Gold Award!

The children are utterly proud and excited about their achievement. They have been working hard, over many years, to develop a richer and broader sense of what it means to acknowledge the rights of children.

They can confidently discuss the ABCDE of rights and often reference their experiences back to their class charters and our school mission.

Inspectors assessed the children's understanding and commitment to the RRS project in June and were astounded at the school's work.

Going back in time, with Year 3

In our Stone Age topic this week, the children have used natural materials to create their own cave paintings! It was messy fun making mud paint and using sticks, feathers and leaves! The children then reflected on their efforts, deciding what went well and what they would do differently next time.

Gold Assembly

Ralph gets the Gold!

What better way to celebrate our RRS Gold Award than with the help of Ralph? - He has been a key player in our journey to achieving this accolade.

In this week's Witness Worship, Ralph and the RRS Steering Committee help us to reflect on our journey from bronze, to silver, to gold. They remind us of the important commitment we have all made in being witnesses to children's rights.

Each class was left with some golden balloons to add to their class charter; a remind of how our understanding and commitment of the UN's work has grown and grown over time.

Our great thanks to all children who have served so diligently on the RRS Steering Committee (in years past and present) for their witness to this project.

World Animal Day

Thanks to the persistence and commitment of Amelia and Adela, St Joseph's will be celebrating World Animal Day on Monday 4th October. The girls have been planning and persuading the school's leadership team of the importance of engaging in this event for many months and, finally, all their hard work is paying off.

Children are invited to wear any animal themed clothing on Monday 4th October and bring along a donation (suggested £1) for the World Wildlife Fund.

The girls are passionate about our responsibility to care for our common home and they will be telling us more about it on World Animal Day. We can't wait!

A Golden Morning

Although the weather was agaist us this morning, it was great to see Wake n' Shake back up and running. We invited the children to wear any golden accessories today, to mark our RRS achievement and celebrate this next step on our journey.

All children (and staff) in the community will also be receiving a special gift from the PFSA today to reward them for their commitment to children's rights...

St Stephen's Class are One

St Stephen's class led a captivating worship this morning to celebrate all of the ways we are united: the clubs we attend outside of school, the tasks we complete as a class in the school day and how we pull together as a community when things are difficult. The children of 5S were excellent ambassadors of their unity as they shared beautiful singing and the many langauges they can speak. Their reflections on the disciples experience during Pentecost were powerful ways to show unity with God and one another. Well done St Stephen's class!
