God Comforts Us

In worship this week (33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time), we explore Christ's promise that he is always near to us. In a reading from Mark's Gospel, Jesus prepares his disciples for the second coming (a theme we will return to again soon during the Advent seasons). He reassures them that, despite their suffering, he will be close to them.

This affords us an opportunity to explore the ideas of comfort, closeness and intimacy this week. We all need to be surrounded by people and things that help us to feel safe and secure. Some brave staff even shared with children on Monday what their childhood comforters were.

As we grow in faith, God encourages us to recognise that he too is always near to us. His reassuring presence is something we can tune into and take support from, much like our loved rag dolls.
