C - 3rd Advent

Contented in Christ

We find ourselves already looking ahead to the Third Sunday of Advent - a week when we light the pink candle on the Advent wreath and focus on the theme of joy! John the Baptist helps us to recognise this week that joy can be found when we are content. Christmas is the perfect time to challenge ourselves to look at our lives, look at our behaviour and consider more deeply where we find true joy. It can be very easy to get engrossed in the pursuit of newer, shinier, more expensive gifts and gadgets. However, to be content - to be happy with what we have - can be a very powerful source of joy in our lives.

We have challenged the children this week to see that when we are able to let go of the constant comparisons, be free from jealousy and enjoy what we have - we can find peace in contentment.

Henry, our hero!

Please support Henry's awesome idea for helping the homeless this Christmas. He is organising a collection for the homeless shelter in Woking and would be really grateful if you could help support this too. In place of his Christmas presents, Henry is gathering donations of toiletries, non-perishable food and games.

There will be a collection point in the Main Entrance - please offer anything you can to help him on his Christmas mission.

Junior Carols

The Junior Choir have been rehearsing all term and have prepared this beautiful, virtual concert to share with the staff and patients at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.

There's even a staff turn in there too!

Nativity Super Stars

We were all so proud of our brave, confident Infant children for performing their nativities with such energy and passion this week - they are a blessing on us all.

Ancient Egypt

This week Year 4 explored all things Egyptian. From looking at artefacts from a mummy's tomb to playing an Ancient Egyptian board game. The children had a fantastic day! Their highlight was probably the interactive show at the end where they got to learn all about the mummification process!

In Witness Worship this week, Miss Green introduced us to an incredible family - the Spaffords. In the 1800s, a terrible accident befell this faithful family; in one tragic night Mr & Mrs Spafford lost all four of their children when the ship the family were sailing in capsized. Mrs Spafford was saved alone while her husband was powerless to help; he had been delayed and never made the voyage.

On his journey to be reunited with his wife, Horatio Spafford crossed the water where his four daughters had perished. He uttered the words, "It is well, it is well with my soul." And so became the lyrics of a beautiful hymn of praise - accepting that God's ways are not our ways and that peace can be found in the contentment of knowing we are saved in Christ alone.

Christmas Market

It was an epic weekend of events for St Joseph's - this year's Christmas Market was a roaring success: quality stalls, delicious food, seemingly endless raffle prizes and a beautiful day to top it off. Our deepest thanks to all the PFSA volunteers who helped to make the event so special.

Attendance at the Whitmoor Common Christmas Tress Harvest was also extremely strong and we can't wait to reveal just how much your contributions have raised for the school!

Reading Chest

One of the attendees at the Christmas Market were our friends from Reading Chest. They've donated a wealth of new reading books to the school and have a special offer for you too!

Christmas Tech Camp

Next Thing Education are delighted to be hosting a two-day Tech Camp at the school on Monday and Tuesday 20 and 21 December. These have proved to be very popular in recent holiday periods!
