Blessed by Christ

In this week’s Gospel, we follow the journey of Mary as she visits her cousin Elizabeth. It is Elizabeth who recognises God’s work at hand. She says to Mary, “Of all women, you are the most blessed.” It is a timely reminder that, like Mary, we have all enjoyed God’s blessings bestowed upon us and we all have the opportunity to bless ourselves and others on our journey to Christmas.

There are some powerful reminders in the world around us of people who can see God’s blessings in their life and invite him to be part of their personal journey. Usain Bolt, Lionel Messi and Novak Djokovic are all recent examples of public figures who bless themselves as a way of acknowledging God’s hand in their experiences and inviting him to work through them.
