All are Welcome

This week's Gospel focus (26th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B) is a great opportunity to reflect on the word "Catholic" - which can be described as "universal" or "all-embracing". We endeavour to be a community where all are welcome and all needs are met with compassion and understanding.

Jesus is disappointed in his disciples this week, who stop a man from performing miracles in Jesus' name because, "He wasn't one of us." Jesus berates his disciples, "You must not stop him." We learn that anyone doing good deeds in the name of God should be encouraged and celebrated.

To emphasise the point, we awarded our new Year 6 House and Vice Captains their badges this week, holding them to the promise of promoting their House names and championing the contribution of all individuals.

Time to Sign

For your second installment, Sign Language Club are sharing some more greetings and learning the first few letters of the alphabet. I wonder how many words you can spell with this week's signs?

Allotment Harvest

Year 4 had a wonderful time harvesting their produce at the allotment last week. They took home bags full of fresh fruit and veg to share with their families, as well as contributing to the Community Fridge. Our sincerest thanks to our volunteer mentors who make it all happen!

Witness B - 26th Ordinary

St Peter Welcomes You

In Witness Worship this week, Miss Baranowicz & Mrs Trimmer continue the theme of being all-embracing by sharing with children the history and traditions that surround St Peter.

Famously, Peter is pictured with the keys to the kingdom of Heaven, a reminder that Jesus called him to lead the Church and set the expectation that ours is a community of love and compassion - a foretaste of the Kingdom of Heaven.

We are challenging the children this week to recognise that, like the disciples, we should not stop others from playing their part or joining in. When we open the doors of friendship, we let Christ in too.

The Love of Reading

In English, Year 2 have been looking at the text Little Red Reading Hood. Red loves to read and so do we. To celebrate reading for enjoyment, we have been exploring extravagant places to read both in school and at home.

Some of the places are very creative!

Confidence with numbers

Year 1 have been building their confidence with subtraction number sentences this week; using number lines, tens frames, counters and written sentences to consolidate their understanding of number in different ways.

Although the focus has been on subtraction, this week has only added to their confidence!

World Animal Day

Thanks to the persistence and commitment of Amelia and Adela, St Joseph's will be celebrating World Animal Day on Monday 4th October. The girls have been planning and persuading the school's leadership team of the importance of engaging in this event for many months and, finally, all their hard work is paying off.

Children are invited to wear any animal themed clothing on Monday 4th October and bring along a donation (suggested £1) for the World Wildlife Fund.

The girls are passionate about our responsibility to care for our common home and they will be telling us more about it on World Animal Day. We can't wait!

Clare's Courage

CONGRATULATIONS to Clare, who has shown huge personal courage in recent months, overcoming a fear of dogs.

Like many children, Clare worries about encountering dogs. However, she was determined to face her fears and took part in a summer holiday course to help her get up close and personal with some furry friends.

Clare has now been able to groom and walk dogs and is feeling far more confident about passing them in public places.

Well done Clare - your personal strength is an inspiration to us all!

A Warm Welcome from 3M

Thank you to St Margaret's Class who led the most beautiful and uplifting worship this morning, exploring the message of welcoming. They taught us that to be truly welcoming we must be tolerant and inclusive of others, even if their opinions and preferences are different to ours. By sharing the famous encounter between Jesus and Zacchaeus, they explained that we must reach out the hand of friendship to show others the welcoming love of God - a fantastic message! Well done 3M!
