Born in Christ

In worship this week, we are looking ahead to the final Sunday in Ordinary Time (known as Christ the King). This celebration marks the end of the Church's year - soon we will begin again with the season of Advent. In this year's reading, we see Jesus in front of Pilate. He explains, "Yes, I am a king. I was born for this".

We are using this week's theme to explore the idea of vocation. At the heart of our school mission is the belief that we are all children of God; made in his image and called to build his kingdom on earth. We each have a unique calling; a purpose; an act of service that will make our world a better place. It is essential that we nurture in our children the belief that God loves them, knows them and asks them to live their lives to the full for the sake of our world.

One Kind Word

Year 2 have had a very thoughtful Anti-Bullying Week. We have been exploring the difference between kind words and hurtful words and what these might do to us on the inside (bruise us and saying sorry is often not enough to making the bruising go away).

We made ourselves feel good by writing one kind word about some of our classmates. Reading the kind things that other children had written about us made us feel loved, cared for, appreciated and, in some cases, even astonished!

And here are some bricks from Year 6's wall of kindness, along with their odd socks display (to help make the point that we are all different, and that's a great thing!)

Born to be a Champion!

This week, Year 4 were very lucky to have a surprise visitor. Jack Beaumont, a silver medalist from the Tokyo Olympics, came to talk to Year 4 about being resilient and hard working.

The children had the opportunity to hold the medal and they asked plenty of questions. We hope it might have inspired some future athletes!

Born free!

In this week's Witness Worship, Mrs Dollner introduces us to a remarkable woman - Christine Caine. Christine is an Australian woman who has devoted her life to sharing the Good News with the world.

Her particular passion is for justice - she believes it is her vocation to fight for people who are trapped in slavery. Christine has established an anti-slavery charity and believes it is her mission to uncover modern day slavery and abolish it. She wants to live in a world where all people are born free; able to respond to their unique calling from God.

Nursery Know How

We had a circle time activity today to demonstrate to the children how quickly germs can spread.

First one of the children pretended to sneeze into their hands, and we put some sticky blue glitter on them - the glitter was the 'germs'. She then played with a doll and the children saw how the glitter transferred onto the doll. Another child then played with the doll, and the glitter moved onto his hands too! This carried on until 4 children had glitter on their hands.

We then talked about what to do next and did a demonstration of how to properly wash hands. They soon realised how much hand washing is needed to get rid of the glitter 'germs'.

5R hear their calling...

St Rose's Class led the school in a beautiful worship this morning, exploring the theme of vocation to end our celebrate of Christ the King. 5R explained to us that there are many paths vocation can take and that there are many ways God calls us to discern our vocation. However, one thing remains true for us all, all the time: our first vocation is to love. We are called to build God's kingdom on earth by the love we show to our brothers and sisters. What a powerful message this Anti-Bullying Week - well done 5R!
