What have the Champs been up to?
The Champs board have been continuing their work to support young people during this difficult time.
During lockdown, the Champs Board have been delivering cooked meals weekly to children, young people and their families; working in a partnership with recycle a bike, the champs board have delivered a total of 1800 meals between June and Christmas 2020.
We have
· Been given access to funding for food, gas, electricity, top ups, and toiletries for young people, accessed by self-referral or by getting a worker to refer them.
· Been successful in getting some iPads/Chromebook and Wi-Fi devices these are being allocated to young people who need them.
· Delivered Christmas Eve boxes for around 100 young people part funded by the Stirling Care Experienced Virtual Head Team.
· Held virtual meets for things like cook-alongs, bingo, crafting activities so that we can connect with each other throughout lockdown.
The Champs have been working on the home and belonging project for a while now. This is a safe space for the Champs to be based but also somewhere safe for any other care experienced young people in Stirling. We think we have found somewhere suitable in the centre of Stirling and are putting plans in place with Stirling Council services to approve the tenancy; we are looking forward to getting to decorate and go furniture shopping.
The Champs board held interviews for two modern apprenticeships, that have to be filled by care experienced young people, we are happy that two young people have started their new jobs. This brings the champs team up to five members for 2021.
