Level Up: Email the Classlist

When you need to email the class, use the Classlist tool

Announcements are great for all class messages, but sometimes you need to send a direct email to specific people in your class.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to More Tools > Classlist tool from the main course navigation at the top of your page.

  2. Find the Email Classlist button and select it

  3. Use the "View By" menu to select the appropriate way to select the group you want to email.

View by "User" is the default setting and is best for emailing the entire class.

View by "Groups" or "Sections" is a good choice for emailing a pre-defined subset of your class.

  1. Optionally, use the search options to filter the list of participants you want to email. A common practice is to use the "Role" option to choose only students, for example.

  2. Click Send Email at the bottom of the page

  3. A pop-up window will open showing you the list of participants selected in the "Bcc" field. Add your own email address in the "To" field and compose your message in the "Body" field.

  4. Send away! You will see a copy of your message in your email inbox.

You can also "View by Groups" that you have previously created in the course:

You can use the "Search Type" options to filter your mailing list even further. For example, with these options below, you would send an email only to the Students in your course, and not any of your TAs or other Course Administrators.

When it's time to compose your message, add yourself to the "To" field so you get a copy of your message. You will see the list of participants you searched for in the "Bcc" field.
