Grades

Set up accurate grade calculation

Use your syllabus to build out your grade book in the Grades tool. It's a good idea to do this first.

Step 1: Decide on a weighted or points-based gradebook

Before you setup your grades tool, you will need to make a decision about what sort of gradebook you want to have.

Points-based

The points of each grade item are equal to their contribution to the final grade. Adjusting individual items is the only way to change their weight.

Example

Assignments: 40 points

Assignment 1 10 pts

Assignment 2 10 pts

Assignment 3 10 pts

Assignment 4 10 pts

Quizzes: 30 points

Quiz 1 10 pts

Quiz 2 10 pts

Quiz 3 10 pts

Surveys: 10 points

Survey 1 5 pts

Survey 2 5 pts

Participation: 20 points

Class participation 10 pts

Discussion forums 10 pts

Weighted

Individual grade items can have any point value, they are then are forced to contribute a predetermined percentage (weight) to the final grade.

Example

Assignments: 40%

Assignment 1 100 pts

Assignment 2 100 pts

Assignment 3 100 pts

Assignment 4 100 pts

Quizzes: 30%

Quiz 1 50 pts
