Level Up: Release Conditions

Create a custom path through the materials in your course

When you attach a release condition to an item, students won't see that item until they meet the associated condition.

Try setting up a release condition on an item in your course site. In this video we demonstrate how to configure release conditions on a piece of content and an assignment.

How to set release conditions on items from the Content tool

  • Select the item you'd like to create a release condition for using the menu on the left

  • Click the three dots in the upper right of the screen

  • Choose View Release Conditions

  • Click Create from the pop-up window to create a new condition

  • Set your condition using the drop down menus then click Create

  • Click Save to set the release condition you've created

  • Notice that the content item will now say Visible if conditions are met

You can also set release conditions from other tools

We like setting up release conditions as much as possible from the Content tool as it's helpful to see the flow of your course in the this view, but you'll find the option to set release conditions from other tools in your course site. If you'd like to set release conditions from another tool, explore this Brightspace article that documents how to access release conditions.

Pro Tip

Release conditions can get complicated, so keep it as simple as possible

Avoid unnecessary conditions, set up the conditions before students access the course, and make sure you're not creating contradictory, circular, or impossible conditions! Check out these best practices for creating release conditions if you're interested in experimenting with this functionality.
