D1- Main platform - How to use EDMODO
Edmodo is an educational technology company offering a communication, collaboration, and coaching platform to K-12 schools and teachers. The Edmodo network enables teachers to share content, distribute quizzes, assignments, and manage communication with students, colleagues, and parents.
Participants were assigned to register in Edmodo class and create a complete profile using their personal devices such as mobile phone or personal notebook. A specific group code was given to the participants in order to automatically join the Edmodo class. All learning resources such as course content, notes and related materials were shared through Edmodo resource’s tool.
Some of the tools included were Note, Assignment, Quiz, Poll and Messaging. Any lecture notes, audio notes, internet links, YouTube videos, website information or announcements were uploaded using Note tool. Assignment tool was used as homework or post-lecture discussion. Special warnings were given to the participants using Alert tool as a reminder of assignment’s deadline. Quiz tool was used as pilot test or as reinforcement topics during lesson and participants were able to test the level of their understanding in each topic. Evaluation process or real-time discussion was conducted during or after traditional class using Poll tool.

COLLABORATIVE LEARNING
Learning on line
3 activities
1. Think, pair, share
The idea that learning could be created together and they can share their skills and learn through collaboration. Ex : How would you reduce traffic in your neighborhood?
First phase : students think by himself, then by pair and them within a large group.
a. Collaborative learning : THINK-PAIR_SHARE (Edmodo) activity
Core question: is school killing creativity?
TEARCHERS AS THE MEDIUM It encourages it by giving students tools to explore their creativity and a methodology for a critical mind. It gives them the materials they sometimes do not have access in the private sphere thus enlarging their perception of the world.
Next phase: THINK ( 3 min) – Pair ( 5 min ) Share
BUT SOMETIMES, THEY DO NOT PLAY THEIR PART: Sometimes it kills creativity, because creativity is the center of the entire educational process. Teachers sometimes do not let the students express themselves because they are only interested in their educational programs and they do not have the skills enough to help the students. For example, in Romania, blended learning, hybrid education: some teachers were not able to use the platforms because they are not computer literate. Even if there were not interested in learning/ motivated to learn different skills. Some of them do not want to change their ways despite the complaints. As a consequence, the students are deprived of access to knowledge the school is supposed to provide them with.
The first step was to answer the question individually and then, in pair.
2. Save the last word
Video : An example from a real classroom
Think about 1 word that you associate to creativity.
Activity based on one word and explanation from each participant.
Person A shares the chosen word
In turns, the other say WHY that person chose that word
Person A has the last word.

FLIPPED CLASSROOM
Use of some platforms and videos
The methodology is called the flipped classroom. Observe and reflect on the meaning of the flipped content.
Student centered strategy. Which is different from / which differs from ‘traditional way of teaching in which students are given the theory and then homework to do.
Share some videos on Edmodo : watch the video as an example, the link could be found on Edmodo.
Why should we use the flipped classroom: examples by why she flipped her classroom.
The advantages of flipped classroom – report all the advantages on Edmodo
Different groups of people with specific needs, A need for effective differentiation:
Pre-loaded content: information that are given in class and they can review according to their own pace. When they come to class, she become at the center of the class and move among the different groups
All students are engaged and challenged. Effective differentiation
RECAP: She highlights the fact that it is an excellent means to provide the whole group with some specific needs. Indeed, flipping the class gives the possibility for the teacher to assist the different groups more effectively. The strategy is to challenge those who are advanced and to help those who are in need. Thus, the progression will be more homogeneous and no one seems to be left off the track in this process because the students will themselves be at the core of their own progression.
What about the possible challenges in the flipped classes ?
- students don't do their homework; - availability of technology; - students might not understand; - more tiring for teachers; - parents' doubts; - students need to be instructed on how to watch videos
