Harvey Baskets
Harvey Basket History
~ Thank you to Stephanie Conner from the Central Region for sharing this information
The “Harvey Basket” is an annual Thanksgiving tradition around DYS.
It started around 2005 when Central Region Client Manager Kathy Harvey, who retired in 2011, decided to start a Thanksgiving collection. She and others helped fill a basket with non-perishable items, King Soopers gift cards, and money to help buy food items. Each donation earned a raffle ticket for the drawing at the Region meeting. The winner could then give the basket to a needy family of their choice.
Over the years, the Harvey Basket collection has grown from one basket to five baskets that are then given away each Thanksgiving. Thanks to the generosity of Central Region and Central Office staff, the baskets are topped off with a turkey as well!

Chili Cook Off and Pam's Retirement
Thanks to all who attended and participated in the Chili Cook off. We had an amazing turn out and nine delicious chili's . Although she had some fierce competition, Pam Temple ultimately maintained her title as Chili Cook Off queen.
Words to describe Denise ~
Denise Parmley, Budget Analyst
About Denise:
I am married, have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren ranging in ages of 4 to 8 years old. I care for my adult brother who has a developmental disability. I am a crafty individual and in my spare time, I love to paint on canvas.
Denise's nominators had the following wonderful things to say about her:
Denise has professionally developed into a true leader in the finance unit and as a DYS asset that is heavily relied upon for her expertise. In the last two and a half years Denise has mentored and trained no less than five Budget Analysts, a Contract Administrator, the Finance Team Program Assistant and a countless number of Program Assistants across facilities.
Denise listens to others and responds directly, she addresses everyone with professionalism and courtesy, and she is always open to change, new ideas and feedback. Denise makes herself available to all, and she is always courteous and inclusive.
She steps in and takes on any task we ask her for help. I always know I can count on her, no matter how busy she is, she always finds ways to help our PAs, our directors and we know we will always get right answers.
Denise offers outstanding support to all DYS staff. She spends entire days sitting with new employees to train and support them and makes certain they don’t leave with questions. there are several PA's out in the field that tell me they don't know what they would do without her.
Some tips to keep in mind:
Planning for the future comes naturally every day, as well as during times of change.
How do we communicate about future plans and goals?
What practices need to improve to ensure lasting positive change?
How does future-focused planning instill hope?

A healthy organization begins with a strong sense of mission, vision, and purpose. There needs to be a sense that the organizational mission and vision matter and contribute to the greater good so that staff feel they are part of something bigger than themselves. There is a clear understanding about what the organization does and who it serves, but there is also a strong sense of what it can and should become to meet the needs of it's clients.
"Future" is a constant reminder to us that the ball is rolling along a timeline and we can either roll with it or against it. That is a matter of choice. Our difficulties in managing loss keep us stuck in quicksand and the more we struggle, the deeper we sink. Focusing on what comes next, the opportunities for growth, the chance for further development, can help to overcome the quicksand.
