A Look Back - Public Employee Appreciation Week 2023
The Central Office EAC hosted a Cookout and Potluck. Our team went above and beyond with their delicious dishes. Significant years of service pins were awarded and the group enjoyed games and conversation.
Also congrats to Michael McAuliffe who was the winner of the Employee Bingo game.
Stay tuned for the next fun gathering planned by your EAC!
The first full week of May is National Public Service Employee Appreciation Week and Central Office knocked it out of the park. Take a look at some of our happenings.
May 9th and 10 th the DYS Education Department brought all the DYS principals, teachers, and supporting staff together for a 2-day training in beautiful Winter Park. We celebrated all of our teachers as well as provided training over the 2-days. Training included sessions with staff from BreakFree Education as well as time to within their content area which provided a lot of great discussions and learning from each other.

Heidi Bauer
I have been married to my husband, Chris, for 26 years, and we were blessed with a son that we were lucky enough to adopt through Boulder County 20 years ago. He has the kindest soul I know, perseveres through any adversity, and is always up for an adventure. He also STILL keeps me on my toes! We also have two working-line German Shepherds that are often the reason why I have bruises, a sprained ankle, or paw prints and fur all over my clothes.
I am clearly passionate about DYS as I have spent well over ½ of my life (28 years) working here. I can’t think of a better place to be. Those that have mentored, inspired, and worked beside me are the most amazing people, friends, and family I have ever met. We have come a long way since I started, and I am excited to be a part of the positive impact on the lives of the youth and families we serve.
When not working, I love to train my dogs in the German sport of Schutzhund. They absolutely love it, and being outside with them as they figure out a new skill is so fun to see. I train with incredibly gifted people who have competed on Team U.S.A. with their dogs. I also REALLY enjoy baking--well, actually, I enjoy eating my baking, but whatever, same thing.
With my son off to college, my husband and I took up kayaking, and we are having a great time out on the water. Being from Minnesota, where we have a lake cabin, I always feel at home on a lake.

Some of you may remember when our very own Pam Temple won the CDHS Colorado Combined Campaign Chili Cookoff in 2018. Lucky for us she is sharing that recipe with our team.

Some tips to keep in mind:
We act for the benefit of the larger society or community around us.
We are accountable and responsible for our own actions and words.
We maintain connection with others through our social interactions.

The Commitment to Social Responsibility is a delicate balance between the individual and the community; personal rights and responsibilities versus the community's rights and responsibilities. The issues of social justice and moral safety are at the heart of trauma, including ongoing traumatic experiences, and the restoration of a sense of a "just world" is a critical component of healing.
Social responsibility asks us to recognize that fairly distributing individual and social justice is the key to having a peaceful, nonviolent, and safe organization. We must always balance our individual needs with the responsibility we have to our communities, as well as recognize and accept that all of the time we are either part of a solution or part of a problem. There are no bystanders in social interactions, and social responsibility relies on true and honest demonstration of the Golden Rule.
