Employee of the Month - January 2023
Pam was nominated by several DYS employees and they shared these strong adjectives to describe her:
DYS Employee 22+ years
State of Colorado Employee 29 years
Married 30+ years
Ficus Tree Expert 35 years
I have been with the Division for 22+ years (several positions) and with the State 29+ years! Yes, I’m an oldie!
I have one son and will be gaining a daughter-in-law later this summer and I have been married for 30+ years. Many of you have heard me talk about my “home” co-worker, an adorable and annoying Jack Russel that is always by my side. We go on lots of walks and I love to listen to a variety of Podcasts on our walks.
I do have a green thumb with lots of plants outside as well as many house plants including a Ficus tree that we have had for 35 years. The Ficus tree has survived several moves and too many home remodeling projects but he is still going strong. I always have a couple of crochet projects going, I love to read and have recently found diamond art as an interesting craft. I also love to cook and am always trying new recipes. My husband and I also love to travel and explore new places – road trips or planes, who knows where you might find us.
I have seen a lot of change within the Division over the years and love that we are always looking at opportunities to improve the lives of the youth we serve as well as what is best for them to be their best when they leave us. I work with a great team that is always going above and beyond to support our youth, teachers, principals, and each other.
The results are in! During the Central Office Virtual Valentine's Day party participants added their top three favorite self-care activities. See if others match your favorites or get a few new ideas for your next self-care session!

"Emotions are among the primary determinants of behavior at work...and profoundly influence both the social climate and the productivity of companies and organizations." (Pekrun & Frese)
Emotions are an important component of thought, and it is universally understood that our emotions help us to value what is important in life when rational thought alone may betray us. Emotions are always considered a part of solving problems, individually and collectively. Change and conflict cannot be avoided in an effort to avoid the emotions associated with such events.
Some tips to keep in mind:
We manage our emotions by recognizing and validating them.
By managing our emotions we don't hurt ourselves or others psychologically, physically, socially, or morally.
We work to be aware of our emotions and the role they play in our interactions with others.
