Lunch Bunch
The central office has hosted two lunch bunch gatherings since our last newsletter. It was nice to see folks dressed in their college gear for March madness and we had an excellent turn out at the beginning of April.
Feel free to swing by with your lunch every month and visit with the team. It's a wonderful opportunity to connect with folks you haven't seen in a while and you may meet someone new.
Lunch bunch has been scheduled monthly on either the third or fourth Tuesday of the month. Check the EAC calendar for details.
Employee of the Month - March
Rashaun Esposito
Data Analyst - Data Management & Analysis
Rashaun's nominator had the following to say about his work:
Rashaun exemplifies the five key strategies well. He uses proven practices in his DMA analysis work, and helps bring skill to automate and refine the quality of the team's work. He has significantly improved the data quality of year end cleaning, writing code to automate as much as possible and paying close attention to detail. He also demonstrates a strong commitment to restorative community justice principals, and nonviolence. He's been working on the annual seclusions and restraints report to provide insight about non-violence within DYS. He is a quality team member and definitely improves DYS through his analysis and dedication to excellence.

Growth and Change
Rashaun is always dedicated to growth and change both within his own work and in helping his teammates. He brings a lot of skill to his role and has used that to improve the quality and capacity of DMA data. He frequently takes on additional work because he knows he can help refine it, and has a significant workload because of it. And yet he is never too busy to meet with teammates who need help. He has met with Hussain and I multiple times at our request to help us in our work. He is committed to growth and change and in helping the analysis from our unit be as informative as possible.
Non-Violence
Rashaun supports the commitment of non-violence in the way he interacts with fellow employees at the office. He is always kind, respectful, and willing to support and assist others. He also provides thoughtful reflections on how to apply nonviolence principles during our sanctuary discussions. He has some great thoughts on how those principles apply to data analysis and to supporting the larger DYS commitment to those principles as well.
Social Learning
Rashaun is very supportive in helping his teammates through social learning. He frequently deepens team conversations and discussions of all kinds, and offers an insightful perspective.
Emotional Intelligence
Rashaun is humble, though his contributions to the work of DMA are significant. He never complains, but works hard and maintains a positive team dynamic. He takes the emotional dynamics of the office well in stride and is a peaceful presence in the office. His insights and dedication to excellence uplift the group. He is a valued team member.

The Commitment to Open Communication is rooted in learning how to respond appropriately and avoid collective disturbances by understanding the nature of collective and unconscious processes, improving interpersonal communication, reducing barriers that are created due to long-standing harmful practices, and enhancing organizational transparency.
When communication is unclear or misleading, people do not always ask for clarification and rather create their own story about what the message was intended to say, which can lead to failures in communication. With open communication, there are ample opportunities to speak to each other in a way that encourages the sharing of thoughts and opinions in a safe space.
When building the space for open communication, remember the following:
*mean what you say and say what you mean
*don't be mean when sharing your thoughts and opinions
*gather information
*manage your emotions and be respectful of others' emotions
*admit mistakes and misunderstandings, and be willing to apologize
*show care and concern
Some tips to keep in mind:
Pay attention to the flow of information between people.
Provide opportunities to share opinions and thoughts in a respectful space.
Engage with others to reach consensus and decisions.
Be transparent in your activities, words, and messages to others.
