In this session we will discuss the importance of creating a culturally diverse art program, including the how, whys, and whats. You will get to hear from BSCS students about what it means to them to learn about other arts and artists from other cultures and the impact of doing so.
Participants will walk away with access to the slide presentation, a list of artists, secondary resources and access to our Artsonia account for lesson plans.
Participants are asked to bring with them to the session a small piece of paper/index card and their favorite art medium for a quick art activity.

The National Archery in the Schools Program(NASP), provides students with an opportunity to excel outside the classroom, as well as, encourages over 40% of students who participate in archery, to work harder in the classroom. Of those who participated in NASP, 58% of students feel more connected to their school. NASP serves students between the 4th-12th grades. Starting an archery team at your school will have a positive impact in the lives of all those who participate.

This session will address the need for short periods of daily meditation with children in school classrooms. It will explore the extent of mental health issues among young people today and examine how meditation can be an effective tool for wellness and a lifelong gift of faith. We will briefly address the role of Christian meditation in the history of Catholicism, then delve into Noel Keating's work with school children in Ireland which culminated in his book, "Mediation with Children: A Resource for Teachers and Parents." The presentation will include a video from St. Mary's School in Ottowa, CA which highlights an entire school community's experience with classroom meditation.
