6th Grade Key Changes
Moved the “Dark Ages to Medieval Era” and Early Renaissance completely to the beginning of 7th grade.
Divided Ancient Egypt and the Ancient Israelites into separate units.
Added standards for Ancient India.
Added standards for Ancient Rome (unit was already listed but standards did not match the unit).
Added standards for the creation and spread of Islam across North Africa.
Added standards for North American tribes under Mesoamerican Empires.
Addition of Geography and Civics was a focus point.
Added course content codes and key ideas for all standards.
Reviewed all standards and revised as necessary.
Added Catholic Social teaching suggestions and suggested resources.
Added differentiation and ESL suggestions.
7th Grade Key Changes
Incorporated “Dark Ages to Medieval Era” and “Early Renaissance” units from the end of 6th grade into units 1 & 2 of 7th grade.
Realigned multiple unit titles for clarity.
Added World War II unit and standards.
Added Modern Era standards.
Addition of Geography and Civics was a focus point.
Added course content codes and key ideas for all standards.
Reviewed all standards and revised as necessary.
Added Catholic Social teaching suggestions and suggested resources.
Added differentiation and ESL suggestions.
8th Grade Key Changes
In coordination with the High School Group, 8th grade course will end with the Progressive Era. Units from World War I to the present have been removed. High School will focus on United States History the period from World War I forward.
The course will shift it focus from South Carolina history to United States history. The new focus will now be United States History while highlighting the contributions of South Carolina as appropriate.
Unit titles were ungrouped and realigned with a focus on clarity.
