People are suffering a lot all over the world for an uncontrollable thing. Disabilities badly impact humanity directly, but with technological equipment being evolved this can change. Technology is basically the way humans use help to disabled people. Seeing how technology includes people in society is wonderful and shows a big advance in science. In addition, these tools can change lives and knowing more about them is essential. A big part of society is disabled which means that helping disabled people is basically helping everyone. As stated by the World Health Organization in every 6 human beings, 1 is disabled representing 16% of all Earth. Furthermore, this organization did an analysis of data discovering that these people tend to live 20% less. This means more than 1 billion people (16% of humanity) probably will live 20% less.
In all the world people are affected by disabilities. Many disabilities can really harm these people, but how does it really affect them? Making home experiments or analysing people in the street would be difficult and not practical. With that in hand, we decided to search on the internet, finding the site of a 49 year hospital named Sri Ramakrishna Hospital. According to this hospital, people are affected hardly, suffering a lot, sometimes losing human rights such as equality and education. On top of this, there are even more problems including social exclusion, employment and stereotypes. In my opinion, this is a big problem. People are being excluded just for a condition that they can’t even control. Imagine how do disabled people feel when they are judged, it's simply terrible. As stated by Lord Library, even physical problems appear, together with communication and transportation ones. They can make life really difficult, limiting access to important places such as bathrooms, religious places or a schoolroom. Also, other things such as going home, being autonomous and banking information can really be complicated. Sincerely, important people, corporations or governments need to act. People all over the world are suffering from many combined aspects and help is necessary. Donations and campaigns are important, so we need everyone to act on it. Based on the World Health Organization: “An estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disability. This represents 16% of the world’s population, or 1 in 6 of us.”. In addition people with disabilities have a 20 years smaller life expectancy which combined with this other information says that 1 in 6 people has a tendency to live 20 years less. Absurd. This statistic basically informs us that there are people that live less because of a condition. And it is not a bit less, it’s 20 years less (remembering that is a statistic) so we really need people reading this to help disabled people.
Because of the unfairness that disability is, corporations, inventors and engineers are working to create equipment using new technologies. Which is amazing. Knowing that there are people dedicated to helping disabled people makes me really happy and I think that we need more people like this. Maybe these people don’t think that but they can change lifes. Some of these technologies are made for disabled people and can help from paraplegic people to blind ones. This list is really big but 2 interesting items cited by Smartbrief are really nice. These are Robotic Exoskeletons, made to paralysed people be able to move which is really good, taking that the Costcharts evaluate some of them in more than 50,000 dollars, and Smart home systems, a system made of a conglomerate of equipments that “talk” to each other making easier some day a day tasks, but the same problem appears because to only one house more that 10 items can be need elevating really much the price. These tools make me believe that there is a lot of work involved in the manufacturing of equipment for disabled people but the price urgently needs to go down. I understand that it is really expensive to make things and that corporations need to gain money on its products, but with these costs it will be impossible to help a big poor disabled part of the population. Unequal. Another really interesting product is the Orbiter Med desenvolved by Kalogon. According to Focus Care, it is a specialized seat made for wheelchairs that makes pressure down avoiding diseases acquired by pressure and gives comfort. The site New Mobility evaluates this item in 5,000 dollars, an elevated price considering that a simple wheelchair in Amazon costs more or less 160 dollars. Again the price affects the product. This time it wasn't a two car price but it was still really expensive. In Brazil 5,000 dollars is more than 12 minimum monthly gains! This price gets even worse when we remember that this product is a complement. A 5,000 dollar accessory. Super expensive! So basically, the idea is awesome, but the price, not so much. The website Enable Me made an entire list of items to disabled people to use in daily life. But one gained my attention: Robotic Arm and Legs. These products are made for people with an amputated arm or leg and can substitute a member. Based on Prime Care, to acquire it you will need to pay a minimum of 3,000 dollars with better models costing more than 20,000 dollars.
Even with many other products helping disabled people, having them without efficiency would be useless. Not only that, many of these tools are expensive, so before choosing one, it is important to know if it is really useful. Definitely, "throwing money in the trash” is not what I call “a good investment”. Also, I think that it’s very important to check the efficiency of some technologies, because an of use technology doesn’t make sense. As claimed by Hopkins Medicine, having a leg prosthetic isn’t so simple. Problems such as phantom pain, a pain in a non existing member, and “Weakness in the residual limb” fault of strength in the lost part of the body, can be caused by a bad adaptation of prosthesis and really prejudice disable people. Before buying a prosthetic, thinking that it will be incredible, you need research and a medic analysis. This is, because the moment emotion can precipitate an important decision, that will change all your life. In addition, considering the price, if you have little savings it is better to wait, because sometimes wasting a lot of money on something that isn’t guaranteed can be bad. As stated by Strong Go, there are many barriers in wheelchair users' lives. One of the most important ones is the fault of mobility. Many places don’t have accessible ways of mobility, with stairs and really inclined ramps making mobility almost impossible. Also, sometimes people don’t give preference to wheelchair users in elevators and public transportations many times aren’t accessible too, making mobility even more difficult. Manual wheelchairs make people have dirt and blistered hands which makes mobility not hygienic, painful and exhausting. Even with the existence of mechanical wheelchairs, they are gorgeous with prices ultrapassing 1,000 dollars in Amazon making it an expensive option. Sincerely, the government should make places more accessible to people and create more laws in defence of disabled people. Also, the conscientization of the population is needed, because having many difficulties, plus people around you not giving preference and the government not giving benefits, is unacceptable. The person has already a natural difficulty caused by a condition they can’t control, at least something people need to do to help them. Based on the website Gavin Audiology, a hearing aid can come with many problems. First, the battery of one hearing aid can perdurate only about a few days, so if your battery runs out at an important moment and you can’t exchange or charge it, you will have a hard moment. In the words of Le Groupe Forget, it takes time to get adapted with the product and you need to “Be patient”. Adaptation isn't easy and sometimes you can feel uncomfortable and prefer not using one. Many other problems such as moisture, and volume adjustment are present, but still is an option if you have a really bad hearing and feel comfortable using the hearing aid.
It's amazing how people in all world have developed incredible equipments, helping in many causes such as social equality. These stools were able to transform different lives in different places. They made people in all the world more independent and made more people feel part of the society. Technology was a big responsible for this, being basically the way humanity used to facilitate disabled people's lives. In addition, as stated by Strong Go people suffer daily because of conditions and many physical or mental barriers that can impact really much in disabled people's lives. Lastly, before doing anything to a disabled person, think about all they suffered (to help these people you can donate to APAE Brasil, a place where disabled people receive help, here: https://doar.apaebrasil.org.br/ ).
