"How To Manage Your Time"
by Antoninho M.
Dear Y7 student,
I am having a hard time following the classes and doing my work, especially homework. After school I have no time to do homework because every day I go right away to my club to practice sports. Furthermore, when I get home from the club, normally at 8pm, I have to do my chores, homework, have dinner, take a shower, and prepare everything for the following day. These tasks don’t give me much time to do homework.
My Iniciação Científica teacher gives me too much homework, most of the time due the same day at midnight. Because of that, I regularly receive notifications on the HE from the teacher about missing homework. The main problem is that whenever I receive a lack of homework notification, my parents get on top of me, charging me for not doing it.
Every time I try to explain, it seems the teacher doesn’t seem to understand that not everyone has a lot of free time outside school. I really need help with this situation.
Sincerely,
Anonymous
I read your letter regarding your problem with homework and that you can’t deliver it in time, and I think you must manage your time in a different way.
I think that you have two main problems, going to the club and arriving home late. This makes your routine so hurried that when you get home you have time for basic tasks like eating dinner and taking a shower, leaving you without time for your homework. To make it even more difficult, you get a lot of homework from your iniciação scientifica teacher that sometimes makes it due to the same day at midnight and this together with your other problem makes it really hard to finish homework. The final part of your problem is that you get told off by your parents when you don’t do your homework, even after you explain to them that you don’t have time and that iniciação científica teacher gives homework due to the same day.
In summary, your problem is that you always go to the club, arriving home late and having to do other tasks, without time for homework.
My main recommendation is to separate some time at the club so you can finish your homework in time. You can do this by going to a place where you can do your homework, for example a library. Also, You could try to leave the club earlier and get home sooner, for you to have time to do tasks and homework. Another part of your problem is your teacher giving too much homework that normally is due to the same day, which makes it harder for you to finish your homework in time. If I were in your place, I would see what days that teacher gives homework and separate even more time , or, if I don't have enough time at the club, I don’t go to it for the day. You can do this by warning your parents that you don’t want to go to the club so that you can finish your homework. Trying to get a time schedule to organize your time better should work. The last part of your problem is that you get told off by your parents, because you didn’t do your homework even after explaining that you don’t have time. You probably should try to talk to your parents to explain your situation. If you did your homework, you would not get told off by your parents. That’s why you should try to talk to them and get to a schedule or some other type of organization that would help you do your homework and if this doesn’t work, try explaining to your parents why you can’t finish your homework, because, if they understand you, they will help you to find any other solution.
My general advice is to organize yourself better in doing your homeworks, this would solve your problems and would help you to be more organized in other aspects . If that doesn’t work, you could try to talk to your parents, or even to another person that you trust, they will probably help you to find a solution. I really hope this will help solve your problems and I am sure you can overcome this difficulty.
Sincerely,
