Social media is not always bad, when you make a good use out of it, it can save one or more lives. Healthy and nutritional recipes on social media are very recent but still very useful. Therefore, these recipes can help obese people to reduce their daily calories intake which consequently makes them lose weight. In addition obesity is a very serious thing that can even cause death, the food that we eat has a big influence on that. If a person is no longer obese and still has the mindset of an obese person, these healthy recipes can help them. As stated by Cleveland Clinic, “obesity can cause serious conditions that can lead to death. These conditions are not only physical, they are also mental, and that can cause serious damage.”
It came as a shock to me that obesity is an accumulation of body fat, so even without imagining it, you can be obese. According to Cleveland clinic, “Obesity is when you have excessive body fat. It’s a chronic (long-term) and complex disease that can affect your overall health and quality of life. Obesity can lead to serious medical conditions. It can affect your self-esteem and mental health.” Moreover, it is interesting that the heart problems that usually the older generation has can be found in obese people because of its dreadful consequences. According to World Health Organization, obesity can cause many serious problems that can lead to death. Some of these problems are heart diseases, stroke, diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders like osteoarthritis, and some types of cancers. Furthermore, I was very surprised when finding out that obesity is so serious that it can lead to death. We always knew it was serious, but never expected this much. As Medline Plus said, you have many risk factors by being obese. In their words, “You can control many of these risk factors by changing your lifestyle. If you have obesity, your provider can help you begin a weight-loss program. A starting goal of losing 5% to 10% of your current weight will significantly reduce your risk of developing obesity-related diseases.”
Although obesity is a very serious problem, healthy and nutritious recipes on social media can help.. It always pops up for me that an interesting topic to learn about is if these healthy recipes actually help the people in need. It is thought provoking to know that with the healthy recipes obese people can lower their daily consuming calories. As stated by The National library of medicine, not only the healthy recipes but the likes and comments influences in the obese people. “ Social support is effective for improving weight management [12, 13]. A supportive network contributing supportive messages and positive reinforcement can reduce weight loss [14]. Social media is a potential platform for weight management [15].” As they said. Not only but the recipes, but also the likes and comments can encourage obese people to lose weight. Obese people are not alone and there are other people supporting them. As mentioned in Aston University , it is more likely that obese people will take a closer look at the most liked videos. If an account has more followers, it is more likely for a person to see their content. They say that “The study findings suggest that social media could be used in future as a way to encourage healthier eating - by encouraging users to follow more social media accounts which have highly liked nutritionally balanced posts, also containing healthier foods.” Even the followers of a person can help the changing of somebody else's body. Social media can be toxic. On the other hand it can help save a life.Based on National library of medicine , the result of an experiment came out and said that every individual had a mix of cognitive, behavioral, and anthropometric outcomes.
Besides the quantity of likes that a video has, people being supportive can also help them change their mindsets. With research, I learned that social media helps with the process of changing people’s mindset. Now, it is interesting to know why. Social media can change people’s minds. As said before, the media can be very dangerous but if you make good use out of it, it becomes wonderful. As mentioned by Emerald Insight, “Results show that the relationship between nutrition and engagement is moderated by consumer mindset, where activating a more calculative mindset before exposure can elevate social media engagement for calorie-light food media content.” In addition the content we see on social media can help us change our frame of mind. This can prove that every little thing matters. According to The conversation , If dietitians who post healthy recipes focus on other people’s mindsets, it will give them more viewers and obese people will take a closer look at it. If obese people don't change their mindsets, they can develop mental problems that are very serious like depression. As stated by American Psychological Association, “Dealing with obesity and similar weight-control problems requires adopting new habits that foster a healthier lifestyle, but don’t attempt radical changes to your diet or activity patterns.”
Obesity can cause death, but with the right nutrition and mind, people can be saved. Furthermore Obesity is a very serious chronic disease, causing many vascular problems that can lead to death. As stated by Pub Med social media can improve people’s lifestyles and help them get a normal mass index. That way, people can prevent chronic diseases that obesity can cause. Thus, the healthy and nutritious recipes on social media can influence positively on that. So, how about tying out those recipes?
