A Message from Administration

Dear St. Albert Families,

Save the Date! We are thrilled to be offering Internet Safety Programs for our students and parents. Rick Nord, a Secret Service Agent, will be our guest speaker, and he is part of the community outreach initiative called Childhood Smart Program, a program about computer and personal safety presented by the United States Secret Service for youth and families in Kentucky. The Childhood Smart Program was created in partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and provides presentations and materials to help teach students how to be safe online.

The program also educates families about preventing abduction and empowering children to practice safe behaviors. Rick will be here at St. Albert on Tuesday, January 30, and will be facilitating 2 programs for students, one for 5th and 6th grades and one for 7th and 8th grades. He will also lead a parent workshop that evening. The schedule is as follows:

1:00-1:50 pm    5th and 6th grades in the PLC

1:50-2:35 pm    7th and 8th grades in the PLC

6:30-8:00 pm   Parent Workshop in the Church (All parents are welcome.)

The programs engage audiences using discussion, videos, and practical tips for staying safe online. They cover issues like cyberbullying, inappropriate content, privacy, and sexting. These are issues that continue to be a concern for many parents as well as school staff. We need to do all that we can to educate and promote safety among our kids as they navigate through the internet world and advancements in technology.

We hope that you will support this program by attending the Parent Workshop and by having discussions with your children about the material that is presented to them in their programs at school.

Please contact me at jkane@stalbert.org if you have any questions or concerns.

Middle School Students: Update Chromebook for MAP Testing

Middle school students will be doing MAP Growth testing next week.  Students will need their Chromebooks to be fully charged and have their OS up to date in order to have the best testing experience possible.  Testing week is not the week to leave a Chromebook at home or to forget to charge it.  The loaner fleet is very low at the moment while some student devices are being repaired, so there may not be a loaner available if your student leaves their device at home or brings it to school without it being charged.  If that happens, your student may have to take the MAP testing during one of the designated make-up days (and miss class time in the process).   Finally, now is also a good time for students should get into the habit of making sure that their Chromebook operating system (ChromeOS) is up to date.  Google issues OS updates approximately every 4 weeks to address security issues, performance problems, and to support new features.  Keeping the device up to date prevents a host of problems for students and it is very easy to do at home.  Click here to view how to update a Chromebook.

Environmental Concerns Committee Christmas Light Recycling

Have you bought new string lights for the holidays, and don’t know what to do with the tangled-up old strings you have?

After bringing your family holiday cheer your Christmas lights deserve better than the dump! Holiday light strings contain materials which sit in a landfill for years, but can be recycled into construction materials, car batteries, electronics, jewelry, and more.

St. Albert will be collecting used holiday lights to reduce their impact on the environment. Parishioners can leave string lights in the back of church on January 13th/14th

If you would like to protect and preserve the earth consider joining the Environmental Concerns Committee. Contact Mark Wehrley for more information call or text 741-3216 or call 456-5176, or email akmojo@aol.com.

St. Albert Men's Fellowship

Looking for brotherhood and a strong sense of community? The St. Albert Men's Fellowship is just for you!

The idea for the fellowship came about in 2022, when several parishioners began to get together informally to share ideas, opportunities and to sharpen one another in different ways. Over the year, the group has grown, and we're excited to formalize our gatherings at St. Albert, inviting all our parish brothers to come meet other like-minded men interested in forming strong friendships, deepening their faith, and participating in service.

"As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Proverbs 17:17

Join the Fellowship on Thursday, January 18th at 7:30pm in the Cafeteria for pizza, drinks, and some College Hoops on the TV!

The group will be brainstorming ideas for future social gatherings and ways to get involved in parish life. If interested in attending, please click the link to fill out the form and tell us more about yourself.

If you have any questions, please contact Nick Norcia at NLNorcia@gmail.com
