A Message from Administration

Making the Most Out of Summer

It’s not summer break yet, but here are some ideas to help make the most of summer with your kids!

Many children look forward to summer because it is a time to relax and have fun. They need a break from their studies and school responsibilities to enjoy themselves. This does not mean they are released from family chores and responsibilities, but they should have a more relaxed time for the few months of summer.

Keep a routine

A strict schedule is not necessary in the summertime, but a regular routine can be helpful to both parents and kids. Provide time to play in a kid-friendly space while also allowing time to play outside. Outside activities physically tire kids out, which decreases stress.

Playtime with the kids

Summer is the time not only for playing alone and with other kids but also being together with parents or the whole family. Join them as they create something with LEGOs or challenge them in a board game. Children thrive when they have attention from their parents and/or grandparents. Children’s sense of self-worth is often dependent on how a parent enjoys time with the child. When children sense that they are worth their parents’ attention, they feel better about themselves and are more confident. So, play together often one-on-one and as a family!

Break from screen time

Kids need a break from TV, tablets, and cell phones. The school year is filled with many opportunities for use of electronics, especially as they get older. However, too much screen time has been linked to shortened attention spans and overstimulation. Away from electronics, children can learn to attach to other people as their primary means of enjoyment. The benefits of personal interaction far outweigh the benefits of electronic interaction, for both kids and their parents.

Making the most out of summer includes getting your kids to be creative and social, both inside the house and out. Summer is the perfect opportunity to share quality time with your kids one-on-one and as a family. Help your children to be psychologically healthy by allowing them to remain children while they can. We all know the time passes far too quickly! Get out this summer and have some fun!

I hope you all have a wonderful summer making many happy memories with your children!

2024-2025 PTO Open Committee Positions

It’s that time of year again and we’re already planning ahead for next school year! Many of our long-time PTO volunteers are graduating out of St. Albert or shifting into different roles. With that said, we have several open positions going into next school year. You can click on this Google link to sign up or get more information. We are looking to add new faces with fresh ideas and energy to our team. With one of the largest schools in the diocese, parent participation is essential to supporting our students, teachers, and staff throughout the year. Events and committees without representation will not be able to take place. So, please consider joining us! There are many options available to fit various schedules and time commitments.

Join the 2025 Viking Gala Committee!

The next PTO Viking Gala will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025! Julie Kruer, the gala chair, is recruiting committee members. The committee will meet once before the end of this school year from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 8, in the youth room above the gym. Joining a PTO committee is a great way to meet other parents and get involved. The gala is a very fun event that helps fund our PTO for two years at a time and fund special projects that better our school, but it requires many volunteers to make it a success! Please click the link below to read more about the committee volunteer opportunities and time commitment and to express your interest. Email any questions to gala@stalbert.org or call Julie Kruer at 502-544-4970.

St. Albert Men's Fellowship TONIGHT

Looking for brotherhood and a strong sense of community? The St. Albert Men's Fellowship is just for you! The idea for the fellowship came about in 2022, when several parishioners began to get together informally to share ideas, opportunities and to sharpen one another in different ways. Over the years, the group has grown, and we're excited to formalize our gatherings at St. Albert, inviting all our parish brothers to come meet other like-minded men interested in forming strong friendships, deepening their faith, and participating in service. "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another." Proverbs 17:17.

Join the Fellowship on Thursday, April 18th, 7:30pm in the Cafeteria for pizza and drinks! The group will be brainstorming ideas for future social gatherings and ways to get involved in parish life.
