a screencast is a video tutorial, usually with audio accompaniment to demonstrate how to accomplish a task or skill. Screencasts have become a popular way for people to demonstrate how to do something on a digital device.
This year, I have challenged myself to prepare more of these screencast tutorials that will support my colleagues with digital integration or in using new software. Our new student information system, Sapphire, has been the perfect opportunity to make some of these videos to go hand-in-hand with face-to-face and written PD.
My first attempts at this have proven to be rudimentary, but I am learning more tricks as I continue to create. Some of our staff seem to appreciate the varying modes provided to learn a new skill. I will continue to make these videos and house them alongside other district support resources.
One of my responsibilities as the district technology coach is to work closely with the Technology Department in our district to help plan a back-to-school tech day for our staff. These tech training days are notoriously heavy. We speak so much about allowing choice and voice to engage our students, so this year I worked in collaboration with the Tech Department to also allow our teachers to have choice and voice in their own training. This opportunity was very well received by our staff. Please see the agenda below:
The beginning of the year preparation for the classroom teacher can be overwhelming and sometimes the communication of procedures is obscure or misunderstood. In an effort to give our classroom teachers a very clear and detailed method for setting up their digital workspaces prior to the start of the school year, I have created this checklist. Teachers will receive the checklist in the weeks prior to school starting and they will be able to work through the checklist to ensure that they are ready to go on the first day of school. It is my hope that this procedure will bring clarity and communication to an area that has been challenging in past years.
