During the district shutdown(Covid-19) this year, our staff needed a virtual space to share ideas, ask questions and provide support to one another as the encountered many new challenges that came with distance learning. Within our Schoology LMS, I created a Staff Collaboration Board. This board was a common place to collect ideas and share with on another allowing us to have some community with one another in a time of physical isolation.
A good portion of my time with students this year has allowed me to focus on respectful online posts and comments. This is an important skill for digital learning as well as digital citizenship in general and one that kids need to practice consistently. This past fall, we introduced the new app, Flipgrid, as one of our foundational tools. I have taught both students and teachers how to use this tool as a vehicle to share their learning about many topics. This tool provides a protected space where learners can practice submitting their own posts and commenting on their peers.
Classroom Rules are displayed prominently in the classroom. I go over these rules explicitly each time students visit my classroom. I refer to these rules when I need to address behavior with students.
