Dear Families in Mrs. Rosenblatt's classes,
I will be posting weekly assignments here. The assignments will relate to the weekly theme. The activities from last year are also here if you would like more suggestions.
Check out my BOOM Cards page too. Just click on the link to go to the activity.
Week of Oct 25
Theme: More Pumpkins
Activity: Five Little Pumpkins Rhyme (Boom card active until 11/9/2020)
Song: Five Little Pumpkins by Raffi
Repeating rhymes and singing songs are great ways to practice language. It gives children repetitive practice and a framework for sentence structures. If you would like and are able, you can print the pumpkin page to practice the song at home.
For speech (articulation practice) I've included a picture of 3 syllable words. Remember the sounds /l/ and /r/ can be difficult for preschool students. It's typical for kids to have errors on these sounds up to age 8.

Week of Oct 19
Theme: Pumpkins
Activity: Watch Field Trip to Pumpkin Farm from Little Story Bug
As you watch the video talk about the different pumpkins. Pause the video and ask your child to point to different pumpkins (e.g., the smooth pumpkin, the white pumpkin). Use these pictures to help talk about the pumpkins using sentences.
After you complete the activity please fill out this Google Form here and let me know how it went!
Week of Oct 8 & 12
Theme: Pets
Activity: Read Aloud Dear Zoo
Pause the video and have your child guess what the animal is, have them repeat the repetitive words of the story (e.g., "I sent it back", "They sent me a...") and answer yes/no questions (e.g., "Can you have an elephant as a pet in your house?")
Activity: Touch the Animal (link active until 10/30)
Practice receptive language skills. Play together with your child. Ask them to point to the animal.
Activity: I Hear: Animal Sounds
Practice listening skills and expanding sentences. Listen to the sound and find the correct animal, then practice saying the sentence.
After you complete the activity please fill out this Google Form here and let me know how it went!
Week of Sept 28
Theme: Community Helpers
Activity: Who's Hat? (link active until 10/9)
Follow the link to the game above. Look at the different people and hats, and find who is wearing the hat. To make it easier, name the person instead of describing the hat. For example, "Where is the firefighter?" To make it harder, describe the hat without using the name of the occupation. For example, "Where is round strong hat?"
After you complete the activity please fill out this Google Form here and let me know how it went!
Week of Sept 21
Theme: Items around the Home
Activity: Search and Find
Follow the link or click on the picture to the left to find the list of items to find in your house. These items are words your child should be able to pronounce all the sounds of.
To make it easier: Name an item and have your child point to it. Have your child repeat the name of the item after you say it.
To make it harder: Describe the function of items. For example, "Show me all the things you wear." "Show me what you open the door with." Encourage your child to use and noun and verb in a sentence. For example, "Wear a hat." "The key opens the door."
After you complete the activity please fill out this Google Form here and let me know how it went!
Week of Sept 14
Theme: Clothing
Activity: Blue Hat, Red Hat
Follow the link to the book and activities. Name an item of clothing and have your child point to the picture. Next have them say the word. Remember to use wait time to give your child time to process the question. For example, "What is this?" (count to 5 silently). If your child does not answer, give them the answer and ask them to repeat, "Shirt. Say Shirt." To extend the activity, have your child say a phrase or sentence. For example, "wear a shirt" or "My shirt is green"
After you complete the activity please fill out this Google Form here and let me know how it went!
Week of Sept 8
Theme: Clothing
Activity:
Pronouns: "my shirt" "your shirt" "Dad's shirt"

As your child "Who's shirt is this?"
Encourage sentences if you child is able "This is my shirt" "This shirt is mom's"
Naming nouns: put various clothes in a basket
Pull out an item of clothing and take turns naming them
3. Naming verbs: put various clothes in a basket
Use the word "wear" with the name of the item "wear a hat" "wear the socks"
To make it harder, add items that are not clothing and sort
For example: mix pretend food and clothing use a phrase or sentence as you sort. "An apple is to eat" "You don't wear an apple"
4. Use a tablet to play this game. Find the Clothing Items! (link will work until 10/9)
