Course Content

During Y10 you will be expected to undertake a variety of projects that will help you refine your design, development and practical skills to complete your Non Exam Assessment in Y11. You will study a range of techniques and processes as part of these projects and then in November of Y11 you will begin your NEA developing a textiles outcome in response to a set theme by the exam board to investigate and develop a product. Once completed you will prepare for your final exam at the end of Y11.The exam is a project undertaken during 20 hours of supervised sessions during lesson time over 12 weeks in the Spring of Y11.

Skills Developed

Studying Fashion and Textiles gives students a whole host of easily transferable skills, including project management, communication & teamwork. The course will provide the opportunity to develop a wide range of design and practical making skills incorporating surface embellishment, joining and finishing, combining materials and colouring fabrics. Students will also develop a sound understanding of pattern drafting and alteration. The majority of these skills will be brand new to lots of students and many we teach from scratch, the most important elements for students to bring to class is enthusiasm to learn and interest in the subject, everything else we can teach.

Assessment

The course is split into two components...

1. Non-examined assessment 60% of the qualification (November-April Year 11)

2. Examination: 20 hours over the course of 12 weeks.  40% of the qualification (Taken at the end of Y11)

Both the NEA and Exam themes/topics/papers are set by the exam board and change each year.
