Forensics

Course Description

This subject is recommended for students interested in pursuing study and careers in Science.

Forensic science is the use of science to investigate and establish facts in relation to an event. Students will investigate a mock crime scene, including collection of evidence and using a variety of scientific techniques to analyse the evidence gathered. Students will follow the scientific method to test and construct valid conclusions, and represent their findings using appropriate terminology and conventions.

Forensic techniques to be covered can include: fingerprints, bloodstain patterns and blood typing, forensic anthropology (height, weight), DNA analyses and profiling, chemical testing and chromatographic analyses, hair and fibre analysis.
