Get on Your Bike

Course Description

Bike riding is excellent for aerobic and anaerobic fitness. This elective offers students the opportunity to gain fitness and learn about the many technical aspects of cycling.

Students participate in classroom and outside activities aimed at improving their knowledge about all aspects of cycling and their general aerobic fitness.

Students spend two periods per week riding their bikes and one period learning road rules, safety on the road, bike maintenance, bike setup and other bicycle information.

Students will:

  • explore views about fitness and suggest what fitness might mean to various groups in society.

  • develop their understanding of physical, mental and social and emotional benefits of participation in physical activity.

  • consider the relationship between physical activity, fitness and health, and explore ways to measure their own fitness and physical activity levels

  • monitor and analyse their own performance.

  • develop strategies to minimise harm and to protect their own and others’ health. • really enjoy this fun activity.

  • learn to maintain a bike.
