Leona Farris is the matriarch of one of the first black families to move to Stow more than 150 years after its founding, and is the mother of the first Black children to attend Stow schools. She also is a charter member of the Zeta Theta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, a charter member of the Akron Chapter of Jack and Jill, and was the first African American woman to be an assistant professor at the University of Akron. She helped integrate the dorms at Ohio State University and a Girl Scout troop in Stow.

Applicant must be a student enrolled at Stow-Munroe Falls High School
Applicant must be enrolled in any accredited post-secondary institution or trade school
Applicant must demonstrate an example of overcoming adversity and challenge through a written essay
