Katherine McVey was a student at Lakeview Intermediate School. During her fifth grade year she was diagnosed with a Brain Stem Glioma. She passed away in 2007. Katherine loved her school and was known for her kindness, dependability, scholastic achievements, and unselfish helping of those in need. This scholarship is donated by her family each year to a graduating senior.
The following criteria will be used as a guideline in selecting students for this award:
1. Volunteer service - The student readily and unselfishly helps others at home, at school and in the community.
2. Leadership qualities- The student demonstrates an ability to work with and motivate others, is dependable, has sound values and morals, good judgment, a sense of fairness, and has earned the respect of his or her peers.
3. Academics - The student continually strives to the limits of his or her abilities, both in the classroom and in the home, to achieve those personal, academic goals. (This in no way implies that the candidate must be academically superior.)
4. Involvement in school activities.
5. Faithful school attendance.
