Absence

If your child is absent

If your child is absent from school, for any reason, you must inform the school before 9:00am.

You can advise us of an absence by:

Approved absences

Not all absences can be approved by the Principal. The following types of absences are authorised reasons for not being at school:

  • Illness

  • Infectious or contagious disease

  • Medical or dental treatments or procedures

  • Funeral / Sorry Business

  • Legal (ie, requirement to attend court)

Responsibilities of parents

  • Ensure a child attends school and provide an explanation for the child's absence from school. The principal must record in writing the reason (if any) given by the parent.

  • Inform the school in advance of upcoming absences.

  • Ensure a child's education and wellbeing are supported by communicating openly with the school where a child has an ongoing medical condition that may result in ongoing absences or medical appointments during school hours.

If the school is not notified

If the school is not notified of a child’s absence, you will receive an SMS on the morning of an unexplained absence. You will be asked to reply to the school SMS by calling the school so that we know you have received the message. Please do not email the home group teacher or message or comment on Seesaw as this may be missed.

Planned absences

Any planned absences of 5 or more days (such as a holiday) must have written permission of the Principal. You will also need to meet with your child’s home group teacher to complete a Personalised Learning Plan.
