Parent Involvement

Parent involvement is encouraged and welcomed at St James. Without the support of parents, many of the programs and opportunities we offer the children would not be possible.

Parents who volunteer to help must have a current Working with Children Check (WWCC). Applications for WWCCs can be made online. There is no cost involved in applying for the WWCC. Once you receive your card, it must be presented to the school for verification and displayed anytime you are working with children.

If you are interested in being a parent helper at school or on excursions, it is advisable to begin completing the WWCC application process early. You will also need to complete our Parent Helper’s Induction around Child Safety in Term 1. This is a mandatory requirement.

After school begins, you will be invited to work in your child’s learning space as a Parent Helper. Unfortunately, we are unable to have toddlers in learning spaces during this time.

St James has a very active and supportive Parents and Friends Committee, but their success relies on the ongoing involvement of parents.

We hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.
