Digital technology focuses on how to create our own computer applications and digital solutions to meet specific needs and to how to keep data, information and computer software safe and secure from real-world threats.
This aim of Digital technology is to explore concepts such as;
how digital systems and solutions can be used by people in personal or business;
cybersecurity, data analytics and programming;
using the problem-solving methodology to analyse needs and opportunities, design and develop programs and evaluate how effectively these programs meet needs and opportunities;
project management skills;
current and emerging digital technologies;
Identifying and evaluating innovative and emerging opportunities for digital solutions and technologies; and
creative thinking, communication and collaboration, and personal, social and ICT skills.
In Year 10 Digital technology studies students will first learn about the modern day demands for collecting, analysing and using data to find vital information. Next they will learn about the processes behind creating their own software such as analysis of needs and requirements, designing and developing.

Students are introduced to the stages of the problem-solving methodology. Students focus on how data can be used within software tools such as databases and spreadsheets to create data visualisations, and the use of programming languages to develop working software solutions.
Students apply methods and techniques for creating a working software solution using a range of processing features and data structures. They apply testing and debugging techniques to ensure the software solution works as intended.

In this unit students apply the problem-solving methodology to develop working software modules using a programming language. Students develop an understanding of the analysis, design and development stages of the problem-solving methodology. Year 12 Software Development includes 4 study areas or outcomes: Programming, Analysis & Design, Development & Education and Cybersecurity.
