The Business pathway follows the process from the first idea for a business concept, to planning and establishing a business, through to the day-to-day management of a business. It also considers changes that need to be made to ensure continued success of a business. Students develop an understanding of the complexity of the challenges facing decision makers in managing these resources.
Students develop knowledge and skills that enhance their confidence and ability to participate effectively as socially responsible and ethical members, managers and leaders of the business community, and as informed citizens, consumers and investors. The study of Business Management leads to opportunities across all facets of the business and management field such as small business owner, project manager, human resource manager, operations manager or executive manager. Further study can lead to specialisation in areas such as marketing, public relations and event management.
World of Commerce is an introductory subject giving students an insight into VCE Business Management, Economics and Accounting.
This course focuses on key concepts found in these VCE subjects, and will serve as a useful guide for students if they are considering these subjects.
In this course, students will be given the opportunity to plan a business around a product which will assess their ability to start a business and identify key skills and qualities that they may possess or require to start their business.
Students are also given an in-depth look into the internal and external factors that may affect business success including (but not restricted to):
employees
OH&S requirements
corporate social responsibility
environmental sustainability
suppliers
competitors
Students will investigate the legal requirements around setting up a business and will cover topics such as policies & procedures, bank accounts, setting up supply chains and technological / global issues that can present opportunities or challenges.
This course also looks at the process of marketing the business, paying attention to the seven P’s, making sure marketing is reaching the target audience and is done with compliance to the Competition Consumer Act (2010)
The last topic will cover staffing and includes topics such as recruitment, management styles & staffing relationships and employment arrangements.
This unit investigates large-scale organisations and the context within which they operate. It focuses on aspects of their internal environment before examining both the Human Resources and the Operations Management functions. This unit provides a strong foundational understanding of the many elements involved in running a modern business.
Businesses are under constant pressure to adapt and change to meet their objectives. In this unit students consider the importance of reviewing key performance indicators to determine current performance and the strategic management necessary to position a business for the future. Students study a theoretical model to undertake change, and consider factors that influence the success of change. a variety of strategies to manage change in the most efficient and effective way to improve business performance. They investigate the importance of leadership in change management.
